Default NEWB to the F150 world!

So I havent owned anything newer than a 1995 Ford truck so I can definitely call myself a newbie when it comes to these 04-08s. I've done a lot of research on them so I know quite a bit already but haven't gotten my hands on one of my own. My dad owns a 2005 Lariat with the 5.4 that I used to drive when I was in town. He's got a really rough idle and a loud ticking sound which I've looked into as either bad injectors/lifters and the cam phasers are bad...From most of what i've been reading it's mostly 04 guys who are bringing this problem up (he happens to have an early 05).

I'm in the market for an 04-08 and I'm just wondering if there were better years to go for than others. Did Ford change something in the 5.4s after '05? Are there any other insights as to maybe the later years being better than the first two? Thanks for the help!

06-08. Most of the bugs are worked out but not all. As with most new vehicles the first 2 years are rough and typically you want to stay away from them. Welcome to the forum.

I have an 05 and my cam phasers were just replaced (covered under my extended warranty) a few months ago but as "Blown Ford" said 04/05 had most of the issues and some were weeded out by 06's but personally I would shop more for a 07 or 08.

BTW welcome to the forums.
