That's absolutely retarded engineering. It would be drop dead simple to keep a copy of this information in the PCM. These things track error codes, redlines, impacts and several other historical data points, but they didn't think something as core as mileage was worth storing?

So any jackarse can go pickup a Tacho Pro for $100 from China and "correct" their odometer all they please with no secondary record... brilliant.

Thats what im trying to do, they have offered another 2004 F150 but it has about 120K KM on it. At the minute the F150 I have is the STX and has limited package (electrics etc). Apparently the one they are offering with the 120kKM on it is fully loaded (this is via phone so not seen it yet).

I bought the STX with what I thought had 80 odd K on it so with this one having 120K I think its only right that I ask for a 50K warrenty.

I was hoping it was going to be sorted yesterday but apparently not. I want to get it sorted before the weekend though while the whole situation is "fresh" in everyones heads.

You're nicer than I am.. I wouldn't accept a "like" replacement. I'd demand they upgrade me to a nicer/lower mileage truck to compensate for the time, inconvenience and the fact you almost got screwed. What they did is illegal. It's their responsibility to verify the cars going on their lot are accurately represented. Their service department should have caught this long before you... and it looks a lot worse for them that they conveniently "forgot" to give you the pages of the carfax report that showed the discrepancy. I'd go to the general manager and mention "lawyer" and "upgrade" in the same sentence.

Go and contact your congressman.....I can do nothing about this.

I have no idea what a "Tacho Pro" is, but I'll bet it cannot reprogram the mileage on our clusters. The last speedo shop I talked with said the equipment to flash just mileage on our Fords was over 15 grand. This is why it's difficult to find someone to flash (correct) the mileage.
Keep in mind that the clusters store other items as wekk; indoor/outdoor temp displays (some models), the auto AC routes through the Lariat/King Ranch models, and the PATS system was moved from the cluster to the PCM in the engine compartment.

The speed sensor does indeed route a to the PCM; but not to store an internal odometer reading that I can see. If it did however, the dealership would have known this, and the original poster would not have had to have CAREFAX data to prove his mileage was wrong, as Ford would have known to check the PCM if that were the case. I also checked my Ford factory wiring schematics; the transmission speed sensor routes to the PCM, and on some models, to the radio to increase its volumn when speed is detected.

That was not meant towards you.. just a general comment regarding some good ole' US engineering stupidity.

There's a number of programmers to be had with a little searching.. or as mentioned earlier, you just pay to have it done (there's a number of place on the net you can send it to). Regardless, most all modern vehicle models track mileage in the PCM, with the exception of the F150 it seems.

I told a few of you about my previous ordeal with the Dealership (Chrysler Maple Ridge) that sold me this lemon and wanted to update.

Me and the missus had nothing but nightmares with the dealership over this deal, they didnt offer us a new truck in return for the lemon that they sold us but they did offer our money back in full. They promised no end to provide us with a new (used) truck that was in the same price range as the one we bought but never seem to find one? Long story short, we told them that we that they had 2 options.... 1. Either find us a new truck in the VERY near future or 2. pay us $15K back (bought for 14.2K). They offered us the money back and im now looking for a new vehicle.

I would like to note that the truck VIN is 1FTRX14W04NA44354 (hoping this will come up in a google search should someone be thinking about buying it). Its a 2004 STX 4x4 silver with 54009 MILES on the clock. This cluster has been changed and with extensive homework the truck has done in excess of 220000KM.

We were told by a local FORD dealer to return the truck ASAP as they found MANY faults on it(it had an immobiliser fault that needed fixing), this was before they even knew the whole story about the cluster.

I hope that these crooks dont try to put this truck back on their lot for someone else to be sucked in by their lies.

In the meantime I would like to thank all those who offered their advice on pointing out the cluster change.

Safe driving.
