I've used rubbing alcohol in the past for residue like that, comes off really easy. Just use a microfiber towel so you don't scratch the paint, and also wax it as it will strip the wax as well.
You COULD also use goo gone, but I think that is more harsh.
Here is a post on meguiars detailing forums about people using alcohol for stuff like this:

Go to O'Reilly, advanced auto, I don't think autozone has them.
3M Adhesive decal removal wheel, you can google it, It is round and goes on a drill. It is rubber and you won't hurt your paint. I've used mine at least a dozen times on projects just like this. It is hardly worn down and I have never hurt the paint. You can't even tell there was a sticker there.

Start with the easiest and least aggressive approach first. WD40, a citrus based cleaner or bug & Tar remover would be first. If that doesn't work, go to isopropyl alcohol and then last thing to try would be lacquer thinner. I suggest you wash and wax it when you are finished.

Another vote for the 3M wheel. I've had great results with it.
