Transmission was first to go they rebuilt once then replaced. Rear end next rebult then replaced because they didn't get C clip on good. Lost axell going down the road. Next the motor blew up. Replaced at 50000miles. In between the major repairs include transfer case problems ,3 new calipers ,all 4 rotors ,lower controll arm ,stereo ,front axel, power window regulator ,numerous electrical issues. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things. The truck has been in shop more than me driving it. Lol! Now first of all I will never be one to say that I am not hard on my trucks. I own my own buisness and buy the trucks for work and work them I do. I pull a lot of trailers and haul a lot of weight. I have to go off road with trailer load of equipment on new construction sites. So they see aloty of use and abuse but the 2004 never had the pulling power of the other trucks (all the 5.4) not sure why but not impressed with the new 3 valve motor. Truck has only 80000 miles on it now. A few more payments and it will be paid off and I can sell it and order anew one. Another F-150 just like the others is on the menue just hopefully without the headaches !
Good luck to all and I hope I don't scare anyone away from buying one. I think I just got a bad one. Ford always fixed everything under warrenty. Just kind of. Aggrevating paying payments on a fourty thousand dollar truck and it sitting in the shop all the time. Lol!
Again I'd have to partly chaulk this up to 1st model year issues. I always stay away from 1st and usually 2nd model year vehicles after a redesign. Sure Ford may work out the majority of bugs prior to release, but I still feel those first owners are Guinea Pigs in breaking the model in.

Most of my problems never came back after being replaced with new parts. I am selling mine because I'm just not happy with the lack of power. I'm not sure if that is a common problem or just mine. Even the new motor is underpowered. They tried reprograming the computer but it didn't help. Don't know if everyone else is having this problem or not.
