ignore the novelties for now...obviously its something you care for, so talk about it with the woman, think about it for a while...make an actual list (by yourself) of pros and cons of selling it.
that should make your decision much easier, or atleast make more sense to you about whats important to you and your woman

You can ask for opinions, but only you can decide if you want to sell it. I'm assuming you do, as you placed the ad, you allowed an interested party to test drive and then make you an honest offer.

These are some tough times for folks. While you do have a very nice truck, with a lot of your sweat and labor invested, the majority of buyers out there do not have much interest in that. It's what we have accepted as the ones that love to work on our vehicles, improve on the looks, and take pride; we do it for the fun and gratitude, but have to accept that it will not nessesarily pay off when it comes time to sell. I've sold many vehicles over the past 25 years in being in this hobby; never made a profit on "my labor" though. My best gratitude is knowing I have a German military vehicle I restored sitting in a Korean museum; sold it a couple of years ago to them. The others, they have come, and gone.

Again, great truck, but if you are serious in selling, I'd jump on that offer if it was indeed your lowest acceptable price. You may not see another, and there are lots of 2004 to 2008 trucks available. Not like yours, but someone can buy a cheaper one, and then add the parts like you did.

In any event, decide quickly what you want to do; it's not fair to those who are buying. This person that made you an offer assumes you want to sell; if you don't want to sell, then be fair and refuse it, then remove the truck from the market.

But make the choice now. Don't delay it any longer and tear your insides out. We cannot make that decision for you.

Ever thought about converting it back to stock and selling all of the aftermarket stuff separate?

I did this with my STI when I sold it. Took some of the aftermarket parts off and sold them separately.

At one time, I was in the same boat as you. I had a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 decked out, hemi v8, suspension lift, tires, wheels, chrome, etc, a lot like yours. I invested a lot of time, effort and money into it and when my loan was paid for, I bought a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and drove it, leaving my truck in the garage collecting dust. The Jeep was newer, better features, and got a lot better gas mileage.

After while, I thought why not sell it and invest that money back into other things like my house. So I did and after a couple of months it was great having two new bathrooms, new windows, the wife loved it, but later as summer rolled around each year, I would see modified trucks driving around and remembered how awesome they looked and how I regretted selling mine.

You may not drive it now, but that could change and I would hate to see you sell such a nice looking truck you spent a lot of time working on, getting is just right. I told myself if I ever buy another truck, they only way I would part ways with it is if a natural disaster took it off the face of this earth.

I concur with Bucko and The Boz. The truck is a material item that you no doubt love and have alot of attachment to. Harsh reality is that it is almost not fair to the truck to just sit and not to be enjoyed after all that time and effort has gone into it. You are a pretty set man by ways of the Navy and your rank. You know that if you miss it that much, there is another F150 being sold somewhere that you will end up pouring your heart and soul into just like this one. As much as you would hate to do it PASS THE TORCH. Like you said, an extra $200/mo is a nice bump.

If you do sell it, I wish it fair winds and following seas.

And if it makes you feel any better, your not alone in making sacrifices. I've been a Harley owner for more than 25 years. Rode motorcycles before they were "cool". I recently decided to sell my 2000 FLHT, because it sat in the garage in Florida while I have to work in Texas (company closed the Florida plant, moved everyone to Atlanta and Dallas). It was here in Dallas for awhile; I paid an extra 60 buck more in rent a month at the apartment complex to store it. Then I realized that because I travel so much, paying the 60 bucks a month was a waste, so I rode it back to Florida and parked it back in the garage there. It now collects dust. It has 134K on it; second engine, but now it just sits. It was time to sell it. I still have it, but it's up for sale.

Bottom line, I'll get another some day; when I can enjoy it again. You will do the same with a truck.

I can sell the truck and buy the wife something nice, keep her Honda for my rainy day/blah/blah/blah transportation and save $200 or more a month off the current $520 truck payment.

Money certainly isn't the reason I am selling though because the truck payment isn't hurting me, but if I can add another $200 or more a month to my retirement account then that will be better in the end. It is hard to think about letting her go though so I'm still trying to decide.
Judging by that ^ post i would have to say sell it. I think 22k is a fair price and you listed some beneficial stuff you can do with all the extra money. And like it was said before. If you do really miss it, you have enough for a solid down payment on a new one.

So I've thought about it (A LOT) and I have decided that I am going to accept the $22k offer for it. I may still try to squeeze $23k, but if $22k is his firm price I'm going to take it. It will definitely be a hard thing for me to watch her drive away in someone else's possession, but I know in the end this is the best option since I no longer drive her. At least he only lives one street over so I'll be able to ensure he's taking good care of her.

Wife and I have been looking and were initially thinking about a Saturn Vue, but not really liking what I am reading about them. We have been checking Craigslist ourselves and there are a couple 2008 Honda Accords in the $12k range we are looking at. I know eventually I will get another truck and it will definitey be an F150, this has been by far the best vehicle I have ever owned.

Hey one positive is I won't have to worry about the sparkplug issue in a couple of years.

My wife has a 2008 Saturn Vue, AWD, leather, nicely equipped and she loves it. Perfect for what she wanted in a crossover vehicle.
