Fuel Pump Driver Module- Check yours!!

Fuel pressure..
Finally decided I would check my FPDM the other day… this is what I found. Decided to replace it and replace my fuel filter while I was at it. Runs like a champ now and no more hesitations at WOT! I figured road salt on these Minnesota roads couldn't be too great for exposed electronics.

You do need to bleed off the pressure before removing the old filter. You can pull the fuse for the fuel pump or trigger the cutoff switch to disable it (passenger foot well), then run the engine till it stalls. Not sure if there is a valve on the fuel rail or not, but that can be messy.

You can always wait to do the filter until the next day after it hasn't run for a while, I've never had to bleed down the fuel system to change out a filter, they don't stay pressurized forever, they bleed down on their own after a while.

Just change my fuel pump and the module. There was little pressure in the lines and the fuel just dribbled out. The module was completely corroded and cracked in multiple spots and my truck only has 60k on it.

Sorry fuel filter. I usually have too. All my subarus I've needed too but in my BMW it didn't matter it still sprayed all over the place. Took my chances and wore safety glasses and it just dribbled out.

Didn't take time to read all the posts in this thread, but just wanted to say I have a 04 F150 4.6L and had this problem. After I had recently had plugs replaced and a bad ignition coil replaced, I sometimes had a rough knock or something similar to when the coil was bad but wasn't quite the same. A friend suggested this fuel pump module and I checked it out and it was indeed very corroded. I went ahead and bought the dorman replacement. Take the advice others have said about amazon, found one for around $60 or $70. From a dealer they wanted somewhere around $140 or so.
Haven't had the problem since I replaced it.
For $60, even if yours hasn't messed things up yet, its good to replace it, the replacement comes with spacers to keep it off the metal a bit.

I just wanted to thank you guys for this posting. About 3 weeks ago after days of heavy rain (boston) my truck all of a sudden stalled out at a red light. It would turn over then stall about 10 seconds after. I got it towed to the mechanic the next day (when it was dry) and the truck started right up and we could not find an issue with it. Last night it rained hard out again so after a little research I found this posting. When the truck was on the flatbed I looked and found the module completely off the bracket and the circuit board totally exposed! It will be getting replaced today but I wanted to thank you for potentially saving me lots of $ and tons of aggravation. I just signed up for this forum so thanks again!

Thank you for the help, my 05 f150 wouldn't start at work on Friday, and had to haul the truck home. Was bumming since I've only owned the truck two months and thought it was the fuel pump. I check the fuel pump drive module as this thread suggested. It looked real corroded, I disconnected the plug and check for power, had 12.5 volts. Went to Autozone and bought the dorman replacement for $103.00. Installed the the part and was able back the truck off the trailer under its own power. Thanks again this forum has been more helpfull than the dealership I bought it from.
