So, like many of you, around my gas door was rusting. had it fixed did it again within a few months they fixed it again under warranty but I know I few months down the road it's going to start rusting again. Is there a fix for this? something I can put on it? I'm positive it's from the fuel neck moving the rubber rubs the Paint and then water and stuff gets in it and then it rusts. I'm just looking for ANY kind of fix
You guys may have come up with. Thanks

I first cut back the paint with a razor to expose the rust under it.. Then I just sanded, then primed and painted the affected area with a Q-tip. Then I used black RTV on the entire bottom half of the door sill.. You can't even tell I did it... I tried to mold it high so it would pitch the water out of the door as it settled on the bottom, but that didn't work.
I don't think the problem is only from the fuel neck rubbing, I think its from water pooling on that ledge inside fuel door.
If you see any rust forming or paint bubbles forming, fix it immediately! It will get real ugly and expensive to fix in a hurry if you don't.

I don't know? I didn't have to remove the fuel door the way I did it. It honestly only took me 10 minutes to fix... I laid down the RTV in layers, kinda like paint. I used a Q-tip for everything. My rust was only right at the bottom of the door, centered at the fill neck. But I did RTV 180 degrees, encompassing just half of the lower fuel door opening. The top of the fill neck body area was still mint.

Well it's fixed for now. Sorry I never got any in between pics. The paint started lifting already so what I did was cut the paint that was lifting off sanded the rest of it with 320 grit sand paper as then sprayed it with bed liner.
