Default Factory intake Mod

In casual conversation today after mentioning to a gentleman about wanting to get a CAI, he told me to just take the rubber boot/reducer on The end of my intake, that runs into my fenderwell, completely off. That it would serve the same purpose and would breath better, I'd just have to unplug my battery to reset the computer and check the filter a lot more frequently. Can any of the mechanics out there tell me if this could be something I should try until my CAI and programmer gets in? I took it off today just to hear that 5.4L breath a little better, but didn't want to run it too long without asking...

Lol I've read all about the gotts mod, just decided I wanted a CAI and get a Gryphon. Unfortunately I have to wait til March 1st, he's backed up on 04-08 programmers.

I would assume because that wouldnt help at all, that's a hot air intake, sucking hot air from the engine by the whole point is to get cool air from the outside in. And no the tubing I have isn't factory, it replaces the first factory section And provides a less restrictive air flow, fits right into the fender snug which is where you want it, if you don't have an intake, it's what you'd want if your wanting to change it at all. Below is a pic of my s&b intake
