check the iwe solenoid. lots of people have had this issue with the grinding noise up front. i was having the noise too, replaced the solenoid out for $30 and issue resolved. the problem is the solenoid goes bad and then tries to engage 4wd by itself causing said noise. or it could be theres a leak in the vacuum system for the iwe's. open your hood and if the solenoid is the original without the new "rain hood" i would replace it regardless if it is bad or not. but just my .02$. i hope that helps a lil

they pretty much replaced everything to do with the 4x4 system. It's got to be what they say if it's warm out it works perfectly. I'll have the half shaft changed out by next winter and it will be good for awhile longer.
