Default Keep head unit running once key is removed

I have an 08 f150 regular cab and replaced the factory head unit with a new one. I want to wire it to where I can turn off my truck, remove the key and the head unit is still running, so then when I open the doors it will turn off. I have manual locks and windows so there is no way I can wire to those wires.

Any suggestions?

it's do-able, you would have to sit down with an electrician (like me, but I'm probably to far away) and sketch up the plan. I think you could do it with two 12V relays. your accessory 12V wire that normally powers your radio will pull in a 12V relay coil. configure this as a holding contact. so that it does not let go when accessory voltage drops out, but it is triggered on by acessory voltage. In order to do this, you would have to bring another (fused) 12V wire from the a constant 12V supply. This holding contact powered through the normally closed contact of another 12V relay. this relay's coil is energized by your interior light. essentially, as soon as you turn your key to On, your accessory power pulls in the holding contact. (stereo power is now taken from here) and then when you turn the key off this holding contact remains energized (providing power to the stereo) until you open the door and the interior light comes on, in which case the second relay energizes and the normally closed contact opens up the holding circuit. HOWEVER, this plan would be shot to **** if your interior light normally comes on as soon as you turn your key off, I forget if it does... you'll want to check that before you try it. Another problem I forsee with this is that the holding contact would infact back feed back 12V into all your other accessory items (after you turn your key off) so you would want to put a good heavy diode in series with your holding contact power line. you really need an electrical tech to draw you up a schematic. good idea though... I would like to have that in my truck also.

This should be made a sticky!!

The radio and window controls in our Jetta stay on for about 60 mins after the key is removed. This allows the sound system to continue playing when the motor is off at street lights!

It really isn't hard to do. Get a wiring diagram and connect your HU power to that wire. I will see what I have at home. I hooked mine up this way, works great.

The diagrams look like you've already got the accessory delay relay in your truck, Ford was just nice enough to require XLT or above to hook the wire up to the radio for you.

Check for the accessory delay relay and fuse 22 in the central junction box (passenger side kick panel. The wires for the circuit should be Light Green w/ Yellow stripe.

Scroll down till you find "Radio On Until Door Opened (Retained Accessory Power)"

Thanks Flyingbrick for the diagrams.

Does anybody know which colors the "Door Trigger" should tie into on a 2001 F-150 on the drivers side as it comes out of the door?

I have it tied into the Black-Yellow wire but the radio stays on only if you have the door open when the key is turned off. The radio then goes off when the door closes.

Search has not brought up anything useful on this.

HELP!!

The radio harness should have a 12v constant and a 12v switched (key). If I remember right I had to switch the 12v switched to a different pin for RAP. Mine stays on as long as I don't open the door or the timer runs out.
