California Smog Check
I bought my truck with 172m miles. Dealer is now telling me to get a smog check because for some reason they dont have it on file but will reimburse me the cost. Now i dont want the cost to be ridiculously expensive so should I add any type of product to the gasoline to prep for smog check. I don't have any codes and recently just did a full tuneup. This is in California BTW

How long ago did you buy it? Smog in CA. is the sellers responsibility. I worked for a multi-line/ multi-location dealer for 15 years and this smells fishy to me. I would drop it right back in their lap and tell them to call you when its passes its smog. I may be way off base (and I hope I am in this case) but my suspicion is it won't pass and they want to make it your problem. Why didn't they just have you bring it back and do it themselves. This thing stinks, don't get sucked into the scheme because you're attached to the truck. Lots of fish in the sea, take it back and have them smog it. If it fails they have to fix it at no cost to you or buy it back. There is no wiggle room for them, don't give them any.

from my understanding it is illegal to sell or transfer title with out smog. it is always the sellers responsibility to take care of that. ESPECIALLY if YOU bought it from any type of dealer.
