Burning oil blue puff of smoke
Sup guys, ive been getting some blue smoke for, id say about 5-10 seconds on start up. It ONLY happens after ive driven my truck a a few miles and its at full operating temp. Checked my oil today for the first time in a while, i was 1 1/2 low roughly. Ive added oil and made a note to myself what date i added it so i can further track the issue. I baby this truck. Has been since i bought it 2 yrs ago.im not rough on it at all. Its my daily driver but i only drive it about 10 miles a day. Its currently at 116k miles. Does anyone know why this could be happening? Ive read a few posts where people say its normal, and some say its not. I just changed the oil about 1500 miles ago. With 5w20

I wouldn't say that's normal. Wouldn't say it's an emergency either as long as you stay on top of your oil level. You didn't mention your maintenance. Are you up to par with spark plugs, air filter, clean TB and MAF? If not, I'd get that up to date before I dug any deeper. One thought on the blue smoke at start up is a leaky valve seal. I'm sure others will have some ideas on it too.

I think the 4.6l have a pcv, but it's built into the valve cover on the 5.4l, and is supposed to be a "non maintenance " item. Whatever that means.

Consuming that much oil is definitely not normal! I would do a compression test and leak down test on that motor before buying any parts. A compression test at home is easy to do and you can rent the gauge to do it from your local auto parts store for free. Do some research on it if you don't know how to do it.
