Brake Warning Light stays on
Finally joined the forum.
Lurked a bit to look for answers to why my brake warning light would intermittently stay on. Brakes are new, fluid is full, ABS sensors cleaned.
One poster noted that the issue could be in the left side connector at the instrument cluster.
I pulled my cluster and cleaned the connections as best as I was able. Put a dab of dielectric grease during the reassembly. This helped somewhat.
The biggest issue for me is that the cruise control won't work while the light is on. I often pull a teardrop camper on the interstate and with the cruise set, I don't have to be constantly looking down at the speedometer (and looking away from traffic).
I find that if I bang the left side of the instrument cluster with my palm, that I can make the light go out. Sometimes it takes a couple good whacks.
The connections seem secure. Obviously they aren't.
Does anyone have a suggestion of how to "tighten" the connections?
Thanks, L.M.

Wow!! Whooda thunk! Now I have an excuse to buy a soldering iron for circuit boards.
Thanks Low Pan.
Good Luck, L.M.

Some times the pedal doesn't release all the way and can cause the light to stay on. Very simple and free to check. On a side note that's quite the paint job you got on your truck there!

Thanks Stephen, The park brake was the first thing I checked. I wish it was that simple.
It took me several weeks to find an extra cab-long bed. When I found this one (price was right) it looked like someones work truck. All white, steel wheels, XLT 4X4.
I bought a set of Bushwhacker flares and had Maaco paint the flares and the lower area of the truck. I sanded the flares and lower area myself before taking the truck and flares to the paint shop. I put the painted flares on myself, so that I know they are done properly.
I bought a set of inexpensive alloy wheels at Discount Tire and the next oversize Michelin (265/70-17)tires. 40K miles later the tires are still useable. I will buy a new set this fall. The front end seemed to hang low so I had the alignment shop add a set of spacers at the front when they did an alignment after I bought the new tires.
A chrome grill, chrome door handle protectors and chrome trim on the mirrors finished off the new look.
All in all the truck has served me well. I get a lot of compliments. I love the 35 gallon gas tank.
