Best ways to remove carbon build up
#21
see heres the difference.... 385 maybe a little high.. we charge 210 per axle to cut/pad
little high? no they saw $$$$$ when my wife walked in........
your paying for labor...
When the pads are $20 that's a hell of a lot of labor....
our shop charges 1.5 hrs per axle. at like 100/hr it adds up..
it takes me at the most 30 min per axle and that w/ me properly checking and lubing up everything and buffing the slider clips
makes me wonder what in the hell they are doing for a hour and a half?
is it cheaper to do it yourself yes... but most people dont want to bother it or trie it seeing as it's kind of a important thing... you need brakes to stop.. it isn't a hard task to do...
I like to make sure it was done right and not waste my time bringing a truck back w/ squealing brakes because they forgot to lube pins or didn't notice they twisted the brake line putting the caliper back on
dealership's aren't bad if you understand them.. we all go by a set "book time" per say we loose our *** on a lot of jobs... cause if it's warrenty it pays ****
yep that's why most of the dealership owners around here are multimillionaires
i guess you haven't seen alot of throttle bodys.. yes carbon does build up on the butterfly.... and it's safe to say if you have over 130k and never had any sort of treatments or throttle body clean you will most likely have CARBON on the throttle plates so their for a fuel injection system clean is a decent option.. as it sprays directly onto the throttle body butterfly.. it also cleans the carbon on the valves too

it's been proven time and time again with before/after pictures.. and i've seen it myself

The only time I will take a truck to the dealership is when warranty/recall work is done

it's all part of the job... techs are always looking for something to get some extra time.. it's actually part of the service it's called a multipoint inspection.. doesn't matter if you're just in for a oil change.. we still check the entire vehicle out. because some people actually like to know what's going on with their vehicle i don't understand you should be happy he found some carbon build up.. so now take care of it... yourself or pay
thats like going in for a oil change and not telling you... you have belts showing in your tires.. or your brakes are metal to metal...
You don't sound biased at all. I've heard of a multipoint inspection.. I've had a guy come out telling me I need to replace my entire power steering system because the fluid was green and not red.
It's green out of the bottle.
My point stands, don't touch my chit.

20.00 for pads? online yah but for advance gold's you're paying about 50 bucks for decent pads.. add parts dept markup..
im not saying all dealerships are legit...
green out of the bottle? idk what power steering fluid you're buying... New power steering fluid is clear, amber or reddish-pink in color.
our trucks take ATF/MERCON for power steering so it should be red.

and that's all fine to each their own.. as well 1.5 hrs per axle includes cutting rotors.. which is time consuming... most people just pad slap and think it's okay, and wonder why in 3-5k miles it comes back for vibration or squealing noise and glazed pads

Not a Ford. See what I mean, assumptions by ignorant people, who have an inflated sense of automotive knowledge.
