If you choose to listen to anybody else about repairing this motor you will regret it and spend many many $$$$ and wish you traded it in.
This motor has very bad engineering problems.
You have been warned!

I would highly advise you to trade the truck in on a Chevy while you can drive it in and get the most for it without putting another penny into it.

2010 f150 King ranch 34k miles 5.4 triton
Hey everyone. Have the opportunity to buy a 2010 f150 with 34000 miles. Been driven minimally as a weekend truck in the Hamptons. Probably will get a decent deal on it. Love the truck but skeptical about the motor...I know the new aluminum frame 2015 is coming so on the fence...get a nice loaded up king ranch for about 28-30 grand with pretty low miles...or wait and buy a mid tier new one next year? I love the truck but don't want problems if can be prevented. Again truck is in amazing shape...thanks all. My mechanic says the 5.4 triton can be problematic with plugs..

Pretty sure the plug issue was only on the 04-08. The rattling timing components are from using the "recommended " 20w oil that dont provide enough lubrication. If your lucky enough you can switch to a full synthetic 5w30 and your engine will be quiet. However, if your engine has been run on 20w for an extended period of time, it's likely your timing components have been toasted.

The 2015 will have a steel frame. Aluminum cab and body panels. The plug problem was from 04 to mid year 08 but isn't really that much of a problem. Blown way out of proportion in my opinion. I'd get the King Ranch!

I've got an '06 with the 5.4 and I love it. It has about 208,xxx mms on her. I keep up with the maintenance regularly, except the plugs. Hav t done them yet and I think they're original. The truck runs smooth with a 1 or 2 second rattle sometimes when I start it, and a very quiet diesel sound that is barely noticeable except when you want to hear it. Soon I will do my plugs.

Don't tell my engine this, its only had 5w20 its entire life and now has 171,000 hard miles on it.
