Back to the subject of this thread. It is possible that the shift fork or linkage is is bent or broken and when you select 2 wheel drive it is leaving the transfer case in neutral, this would account for the no go in 2 wheel drive and the park Paul "buzzing".

The shift fork or linkage does not appear to be damaged in anyway. I'm not sure if the transfer case is stuck in neutral. How would I go about finding that out?

The shift fork is internal and would require T case removal and disassembly. before you dig into the t case you might jack up 1 rear wheel with selector in 2 wheel drive, engine off turn rear wheel and observe drive shaft, if the shaft turns problem is in t case if the shaft does not turn then the problem is in the rear end or axle.

While then my problem would be in the transfer case. Thanks so much for all the help guys.

Wouldn't it still be in neutral in 4x4 then unless maybe he's got a floor shifter
