2004 4.6 engine sensor
I was in a rush and it was getting dark when I added a quart of engine oil to my 2004 f-150 4.6 engine.
From that point on my engine check light has stayed on. There is a black rubber(plastic), around a 1/2inch diameter at the end, round line, with a small hole in the middle, that is hanging loose close to the add engine oil cap on the engine. But I can’t see anywhere to plug it into, or snap it into, in that area. The line goes into a wiring harness along the intake manifold area on the passenger side of the engine. I’ve tried traveling the radius of the wire on that side of the engine and I don’t see anywhere to attach the end of it. The truck runs fine, but I’d like to fix the problem. Any ideas? Thanks, Robert

IWE solenoid???
Looks like it may connect to the IWE solenoid (only if you have 4WD) located on you firewall (in front of the passenger seat in the engine compartment just under the hood). It may not go directly to the solenoid, but may connect to a vacuum hose from the solenoid.

Looks to be part of the original installation if it were going to be a 4wd. There are a lot of harnesses that are used when the truck are being built that works for both 2 and 4wd. Whats the code for the check engine light?

I don't have a code checker. Maybe I'll haveto find someone in a parking area with a truck like mine and ask them if they could open their hood so I could check where that wire connects. I'm thinking something broke off where I can't see it. Everything is factory setup in my engine compartment. Thanks for the reply.

Sorry for the late reply, but the monsoons have arrived in the Pacific North-West. I just looked at my 4.6 (with 4WD) and the only vacuum hose that size is hooked up to the IWE solenoid or reservoir. From your pic, the vacuum hose on mine comes from the same harness. As the other poster mentioned, maybe it's just a stock set up for all engines (2WD & 4WD). If you have a vacuum leak from that hose, I would simply plug it up.
If you don't have a code tool, try the engineering test mode on your instrument panel. Do a web search Ford engineering test mode or ford test mode.
