Default 05 F150 Running Hott...

This evening on my drive home my temp gauge was completely pegged out towards the hot side almost to the point it was above the H. I drove it about 10 miles had to get home didn't seem to have any type of problems. I checked the radiator reservoir and it is alittle dirty but didn't seem low at all. Is there anything else I should check I am no mechanic by far, but could The thermostat be going or possibly went bad? What all do I need to check? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

I attached a photo

I think I would start with the thermostat. Maybe look at the fan clutch as well.

When its showing that hott you need to shut the engine down lol.... Try the heater see if you have heat.

After it cools down start the engine and see if the gauge slowly climbs or just instantly goes back to hott. Could just be a bad temp sensor.

I have it in the shop rightnow cooling off I will post the results shortly. Hopefully it is something simple maybe a new thermostat or a clogged hose. Hopefully nothing to do with me water pump. I turned on the heater this morning to help keep it cool on the way to the shop. We will see how the rest of the day goes. Thanks for the help guys

Hopefully it's just a temp sensor because 10 miles of driving at that temp is no bueno.

while I agree that driving it is not good.
Ford says you can drive it for a while you will have reduced power as it shuts cylinders down and uses the incoming air to cool the engine

Ended up replacing the fan clutch, flushed the rad and replaced the thermostat aswell. It is running at its normal temp again. It wasn't to much of a pain could've been worse I guess. Thanks for the input
