SYNC v4.4 Breaks USB2

I'd like to help with this. What type of phone are you using, and have you gone to the dealer about this issue?

The entire Sync system including the nav has been temperamental at best. And the problems are not consistent with every truck.

It is behind the radio, accessible through the hatch on top of the dash. Remove the rubber mat from the tray on top of your dash, remove the two bolts, and the tray lifts right out.
There is an entire thread on this. Search for "USB2 mod". But if you've updated SYNC, it is unlikely to work. After much complaining, PMing with the Ford rep on here, and phone calls, I eventually got to a Ford engineer who told me that Ford intentionally disabled it. But it still provides power and for some people, it apparently still works. If true, this inconsistency is typical Ford, who just can't seem to get SYNC right. Breaking USB2 is one of the many problems with this SYNC update. There are threads about the other problems too...

Now I'm thinking that if I can remove that tray, I might bolt a cell phone mount to it.

This is one of those K.I.S.S. situations.
If it works, leave it alone......
I work in the computer and telecommunications industry for 20 years.
Upgrades typically invoke headaches and growing pains that require guinea pigs

I didn't know about the second USB port. Not sure I even need it since I have a low profile 32GB flash drive in the front port.
So far the sound system is decent. Best OEM system I've had as far as features go. Not the best sounding, but that is expected. I will eventually replace the speakers.
