it has nothing to do with the tint... because these windows are bolted in, the backglass could have been grounded out thus creating excessive heat on the contact and therefore blowing up... very uncommon, but if Ford would quit bolting these backglasses in and started gluing them in, this problem and the leaking problem would go away...

This is scary... I've only used the rear defroster once in the 2 years I've had this truck because I live in the south. But I do notice the back glass gets "smoky" (not actual smoke but vapor rising off it I guess would be the correct term) whenever I wash it. I don't know whether that's actually a bad thing or not, but it makes me uncomfortable cause I've never seen that happen on any vehicle I've ever washed

After bringing my truck into the shop for the shattered rear window problem, they told me that it was covered under the warranty and would be replaced. The only bad thing was that the part is on back order and they don't know when it will be in.

There are enough incidents now you'd think Ford would do a recall. It's obvious there is a very bad defect with the rear window and the defrost unit. I guess Ford will wait until there is a baby in a car seat that gets badly burned and they get sued before they decide to do something about it.

any local glass company can get Carlite parts, your dealership should have a relationship with one and could expedite the process

Default Exploooooooooooooooosion!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't think this is a troll!! This exact thing happened to me. Looks like they are 2010 F150 with a sliding powered rear window with defrost. Driving down the road with the defrost on and "cabooooooooom". Sounded like a bomb went off in my truck. Pulled over to see if a tire exploded. Didn't notice anything until I got to work. Thats right, the rear passenger sliding rear window was shattered!!!! I have around 18,000 miles on it. Took it straight to the dealer and they didn't want anything to do with it. That is not a covered part they said. The manager takes a light out and says "the point of impact is here" pointing to the lower left orange square from where the defrost starts from. I tell him sorry, there is no impact!! I tell him this makes sense because it exploded shortly after I turned the defrost on. He says thats not the defrost, the lines are the defrost. I could tell this guy was a tool and was not getting anywhere. Anyways I called Ford customer care and also the national highway safety to report my findings. I had to make an insurance claim for mine. Now read this, the new window that was put in is different than the OEM. They are both Carlite OEM, but they changed the design. I have the orignal in my garage. I don't think these are getting reported because people just make insurance claims and don't think it is a problem. Just to add, another F150 down my street had a cardboard piece in his rear passenger window. Of course I knock on his door to ask what happened and yes his also exploded while the defrost was on. "man, it sounded like a bomb". My wife also has seen several other F150's in the metro Detroit area with the exact same window shattered. So we are up to 6 people now that I know of.. There are many more but I could not stop and talk to them. The investigation of the taurus throttle sticking only took 10 complaints. Let's get the word out and see if anyone else had this happen to them.

Anyone with a 2011 have this happen? It does appear to be a 2010 problem. One thing I notice, or I at least it seems, is that rear slider glass on my 11 Lariat seems thicker than the glass slide in my 08 FX4. The whole window assembly actually seems tighter and better made. I could move the slider panel on my 08 up and down just by cleaning it. I still get the ubiquitous rear window rattle on occasion but I had it more often with my 08 FX4.

Glass is safety glass it implodes when not treated so good. Somewhere along the line if it gets hit sooner or later it will turn to confetti.
