Default Towing Mirrors

Hi all,

I have recently bought a new truck (see signature for details) and was looking into tow mirrors for it. (I bought it off the lot, and it had regular mirrors on it.) I am not really keen on buying new mirrors from Ford (any one know a general price for these) and the used ones I have seen locally are around 400-450$ (Canadian). I have also considered the clip on mirrors too, since I do not tow all that often, so I could take them off when needed.

So what I ask is, is 400$ a good price for used tow mirrors, or should I buy new? And how easy is it to take the mirrors off and add the new ones?

Also, here is a link to some clip on tow mirrors that seem decent, anyone try these before. They would cost ~100$ (with shipping) to get them here, which is much better than 400$.

If anyone has any input let me know, thanks!!

Check out Tasca parts. Part number DL3Z17696BA
Brand new, price is for the pair.

Or if you don't mind having aftermarket mirrors. Check out 1aauto.com part number 1amrp00618

I personally went with the oem option.

Well I think ive seen them new for about 400-500 i think. But ive also seen them for 200 locally for me used. So i guess it just depends on what you can find. Im sure other people will chime in and be more helpful.

Im seeing $399 new on ebay at most. Others new ranging between $250-320 new. That being said 400 seems way too much for used ones.

I use the clip ons that you posted when I tow my snowmobile trailer, I prefer the look of the smaller mirrors for everyday driving

Thanks for the replies guys. I will see if the used option guys will go down any lower in their asking price. Cause yeah, after seeing new ones on ebay for similar price I would not want to spend that much on used. If they won't go down any lower I will probably just buy some clip on ones. (Honestly, I have a seasonal campsite for my camper, so i will only have to tow it there and back, otherwise I only haul a small utility trailer a few times a month).

On another note, if I do buy actual tow mirrors, how easy is the removal and replacement of the mirrors, any one have any pointers?

Not sure about removal and install. Although my friend did his and lets just say he isnt the brightest bulb in the box. There is probably a youtube video maybe. I will say this about having tow mirrors though, compared to the regular ones, it provides you with alot more vision. You can see if their is a car right on your hip or not without having to turn around or anything. And they look pretty sharp IMO

Here's a thread in the Tow/Haul section about some aftermarket tow mirrors in the works:

The other option, being a fellow Canuck, is to take a look at a dealer on ebay. Fairway Ford is in the "international shipper" program and shipping & duty is dirt cheap. I bought a set of FX4 heads and tails and my freight to the Yukon was somewhere in the $50 range. Just a thought, not sure if Tasca is in the program too.
