Default Odometer/Speedometer 1% Pessimistic

Drove 1000 miles and the odometer read 990 miles, a 1% shortfall. So if you think you are going 75 mph you are actually going closer to 76. Bought the new F-150 in January and had to put 1000 miles on it before I could tow my trailer (the break-in period). I purchased the truck for the sole purpose of towing my landscape trailer so drove aimlessly on the interstates for 2 days until the odometer read 1000. Measuring the mileage via the highway mileage markers every time that I drove 100 miles the odometer measured only 99.0 or 99.1. All that darn aimless driving and then I had to go an extra 10 miles cause the odometer is pessimistic.

With most vehicles I thought the rule of thumb was 2-3% optomistic, like you aren't driving as fast as the speedometer says. My new F-150 is the opposite. No biggie but just thought that I would mention it.

LOL! SO you drove your vehicle 1000 miles, aimlessly and you are worried about 10 extra miles?

Please!

You just said in your original post all that needs to be said:

" No biggie . . ."

You don't think that the mile markers on the street could be off by 1%, they were put up many years ago most likely, and possibly not the absolute best measurement there also?

mine is slightly off as well (100=95 according to my gps) but the speedo seems to be right, hard to tell the speedo isn't very precise. They should be able to flash the odo to get it right.

Default speeding

dunno, it could matter. Common wisdom is that if the speed limit is 65 mph then 73 is maybe the maximum safe to avoid a ticket. My car speedo is 2-3% optomistic so if the speedo reads 75 maybe I'm "safe". In my new truck the speedo would need to read 72 vs. 75 in the car, a 4% differential.

Think of it as 1% in extra miles of warranty (Based on actual miles driven). That 1% will change anyway as the tires wear.
