Post INSTALLED: Raptor Exhaust

PARTS:
  • non-resonated intermediate pipe

*Part # 9L3Z-5A212-C (145" WB, 5.0L) NOTE: Had been previous installed to replace the resonator intermediate pipe.
  • exhaust pipe reducer -2½" OD inlet / 3" ID outlet / 8" long

    *Custom-made, stainless steel.
  • exhaust band clamp - 3" stainless steel

*DynoMax part # 36439 NOTE: Used to attach exhaust pipe reducer to muffler pipe.
  • muffler + tailpipes - inlet: 3" OD / outlet: 2½" OD dual

*Part # AL3Z-5230-F NOTE: Since the spare has been removed from under the bed, the tailpipe heat shield was removed to eliminate collecting road debris, salt, sand, etc.. The exhaust tips (part # AL3Z-5202-A) were removed and replaced with ...
  • exhaust tips - 2½" inlet / 4" outlet / 12" long / ceramic coated matte black stainless steel

    *GIBSON part # 500419-B
PICTURES:

RESULTS: Definitely more exhaust tone/purr at start-up and idle. At WOT the raspiness that was present with the 5.0L exhaust system is gone and while there isn't a bark it is noticeably louder. At highway cruising speed you can now hear the exhaust (with the radio off) - not loud, more of a background, low, mellow purr.

COMMENTS: While I knew it would be an easy install I didn't have access to a lift so I had it done at an exhaust shoppe just to eliminate the handling/extraction/install hastle of complete, non-cut-up exhaust systems. Since the Raptor exhaust was a *new*, no/low-miles take-off system, I expect that the tone will deepen as time goes along just like the original exhaust system.

I'm satisfied with the mod'. And I'm unanimous on that.

No offense, or disrespect, intended... but don't you always preach to people in other post how much of a waste of money changing the factory exhaust is? And how free flowing and good the factory exhaust and resonator are? I don't get it.
I do love the look of your exhaust and wish I had one but people want $300 for take offs and that's not including the price of getting the transition for the pipe where it bolts up.

Co$t of the Raptor exhaust was minimal ($50) and it is a factory, stainless steel exhaust system.

EDIT: Forgot to include the co$t of the reducer ($20) and the band clamp ($7). The ceramic coated matte black stainless steel tips were an unnecessary 2for bargain extravagance that I found ($120 for the pair).

And how free flowing and good the factory exhaust and resonator are?
And since the Raptor's exhaust is a factory exhaust it is (still) free flowing (and good).

I don't get it.
That's because you don't pay attention. Each soapbox speal includes (or has words to that effect)...
If you're doing the change for performance gains you're wasting your $$$$$
Which is followed (or preempted with) ...
If you're doing it for the sound or the cosmetics ... PWRA (Proceed With Reckless Abandon).
I opted for sound -AND- cosmetics and never touted, proclaimed (nor imagined) any performance (HP and/or MPG) gains.

I'm thinkng about doing this exact same thing. There's a member on here that I'm probably going to be uying it from. It's either that or just get the MR400 muffler and have it welded in place. I'm looking more for sound/tone. I'm not forced induction......yet, but that's another topic. Nicely done. Not sure I'll go with black tips if I get it though.

I'm delighted with the Raptor take-off system (claimed 500 miles), which fits mine like it was made for it. Well, yeah it was but it now sounds properly robust yet subdued for the 6.2L. I paid more than did Joe but figure it worth every penny of the modest cost...

At least you didn't cut off a expensive factory exhaust and bolt on some noisy aluminised junk.

Resell value is minimal. I sold mine for like 60 bucks after having it listed for a few months. I was about to scrap it because I was tired of the garage space it took up. Was never going to settle for a cheap aluminized system though.

The black tips are a nice touch!
