Exploding rear window
2010 F150 XLT Stock.
This morning I was heading to work. Had rear defroster on. Went about 3 miles and heard a large POP. I thought something fell on the roof! I got to the parking lot and looked around the truck outside in the dark. I even climbed up on the runners to look at the roof. Nothing looked wrong.
I returned to the parking lot in the evening and hopped in my truck and looked in the rear view and the riders rear (right of the sliding glass middle) window was broken. Looked like a spider web. I thought someone broke my window in the lot but then I remebered the noise in the morning. Also, there was no outside indication of anything hitting the window.
I remembered I had my Rear defrost on that morning and wondered if that got too hot and shattered the window. Started searching the net and sure enough! Others have had the EXACT same thing happen. Going to the Ford dealer as soon as I can! Will let you know. We need a recall on these 2010's! Beware of your rear defroster!

ALL are 2010's. Aparently there is a BIG problem with this.
What can I do to report properly and get manufacturer repair under warranty?
Thanks for your help.

Ya I know its an older model but I think I remember hearing about it before. Then I saw a thread on here the other day about the same thing and happened to see that driving down the road

that's just tempered glass for ya! It's great in an accident since it breaks into little pieces but in order to do so it is always under pressure which can lead to things like this. Same thing happened to my wife's Envoy (liftgate glass) about 2 years ago. The guy at the glass shop said they've even had pieces that were sitting in their warehouse on the rack shatter for no reason. Some insurance companies offer glass protection for a few bucks a billing period that will make it a lot cheaper if something like this happens again. The glass in my wife's envoy would've been ~$1200 ($500 deductible) but thanks to my glass coverage I didn't pay a dime... I'm just glad in my case the dogs weren't in the back cargo area and in your case nobody was in the backseat.

Just an update for you all. I took my truck to the Ford dealer I bought it from in Northern VA. They recorded everything, took pics and sent in my print outs of similar problems in the same model and year to Ford HQ. I have a 2010 F150 XLT. All problems that I've found online occurred in the same truck and year with rear defrosters. The pictures i've seen online look exactly like my rear rider's back facing window, it spiders out from the bottom center window, where the heater element is, to the top in the exact same model and year: 2010 F150s. Trim model and version does not matter. It has occurred in XLT's and Raptors. They were all 2010's with rear window defroster though. Same spidering breakage and loud gunshot sound when it broke while in a cool or cold climate.
To Ford's credit, they took in all the evidence from the dealer and agreed to repair the rear window under warranty. I take the truck in tomorrow for repair.
Wanted to provide an update for you all with rear window defroster's in 2010 F150's.

hmm, that's weird. So it's a 2010 only issue? Do you guys have early build trucks? Because I know 2010 was the first year they added the rear defrost to the power sliding window.
