You could rig a mechanical switch easy enough. You could even buy the temp control that some others bought from Ebay to operate it and make it automatic.

LOCO LAPTOP - With the mod, it should blow cooler at speed for sure. At idle, and on a high fan speed the system may not be able to keep up so the temp slowly increases. Does your compressor cycle at idle?.

Yes, it cycles at idle. I had on 3 the whole time.

How long had your ac been on? Mine doesn't get down to good temps until the cab has been cooled which sometimes takes 15-20 minutes. After that it's nice and chilly, driving or idling.

Default Relay power

I recently wired the relay power to a fuse in the passenger side lower kick panel fuse box that has power when the key is on. Now no more on off switch, you can put the switch between the fuse box and the relay if you want but in the last month I've left the switch on 24/7 and the relay still going. 212,000 miles on this compressor.

Does anybody know if the max a/c switch on the manual system does anything other than toggle between fresh and recirc air?

I've been curious as well so I looked it up. From what I see, it doesn't do much except for a default for all the different mode selects.

From the 2014 service manual:

System Airflow and Mode Description
Max A/C
When MAX A/C is selected:
  • the air inlet door closes, preventing outside air and admits only recirculated air.
  • the RECIRC indicator is illuminated (RECIRC forced on).
  • the mode doors direct airflow to the instrument panel A/C registers.
  • blended air temperature is available.
  • the A/C request button is illuminated.
  • the A/C compressor operates if the outside temperature is above approximately 0°C (32°F).
  • the blower motor is on.
