Issue: Cannot default the My Ford Sync system (without Navigation) to Bluetooth audio

Some users are having an issue with when they turn the ignition on their My Ford Sync system reverts to Line-In even though they were using Bluetooth audio when they turn their vehicle off. They would like to have the system revert back to Bluetooth audio instead of having to go through the menus to be able to get to Bluetooth audio or use the voice commands. A Ford customer service representative FordIVTteam actually joined in the conversation and gave the reason why Ford made this change (as it would previously revert to Bluetooth) and the best method to get back to the source they wanted.

I have a feeling that technically SYNC doesn't 'carry' metadata' so much as it is 'presented' metadata at some point by the phone, and whether or not it's presented with said metadata has to do with the BlueTooth stack implementation on that phone.
Hi caniscream and Kung,

My name is Kim. You may see me jump in this forum once in a while to help out. I realize this is a pretty long thread, but I tried to catch myself up on the conversation!

I'll try to clear up any confusion. When music is being streamed via Bluetooth audio on the MyFord Touch system, you may be able to see the album/artist/song information display on the screen. This depends on the type of phone that is being connected. I'll be honest, some of you may be able to explain how this works a little better than I can. I can, however, confirm that MyFord Touch uses the following Bluetooth profiles: HSP, HFP, PBA, OBEX, OPP, AVRC and MAP. The AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile) works with the A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) to allow the metadata to appear on the MyFord Touch display.

Here is the compatibility chart that Nick was speaking about: http://support.ford.com/sync-technol...c-myford-touch As you can see, Bluetooth audio streaming is listed as a desired feature, but the chart doesn't confirm if metadata can be displayed via Bluetooth or not.

Please note that this will only work on MyFord Touch, the basic SYNC system does not support this.

The best way to see if this works with your phone is to test it. Start playing music on your phone, then press the VOICE COMMAND button on the steering wheel and give the command BLUETOOTH AUDIO to begin streaming music.

Well of course it doesn't! Hooray! It's only the most basic thing that any Bluetooth audio device with a display can do! And there's no way to upgrade to a MyFord Touch! Naturally! YAY!

I love Ford, but man whoever is in charge of the design and feature spec of the IVT doesn't think things through. My next truck will not have any of the IVT's advanced work in the center stack.

All I can say is thank god for ADS' iDatalink Maestro product (and the 3rd party audio market) to fill in the cracks in the system that Ford refuses to fix.

Hello,

I signed up for this forum to add my two cents to this conversation, as it seems to be the most up-to-date conversation on the internet. I'm a new 2013 Ford Fusion SE owner, but I am dealing with the same Ford Sync gripes that the F-150 owners here are discussing.

Kim, thanks for responding to the thread. I know that in an old version of the Sync software it allowed users to auto-reconnect bluetooth audio, but due to battery concerns, it was removed. I know for me personally, as well as many others here, we would love to have that feature back. In order to satisfy both groups of people, those that use auto-reconnect and those that want to save battery, wouldn't it make the most sense to make it a selectable choice? For instance:

Media->Bluetooth->Auto Reconnect Audio->On/Off

That would solve the problem either way for literally everyone.

lately i have noticed that my sync is automatically picking up bluetooth audio and playing songs right away when i start the truck. no cammands needed. I think this is working for me because...
-my music app is left in 'pause' mode, not stopped when i'm away from my truck
-i always have the phone with me. If i make a short trip without it, then it seems to forget to start in bluetooth next time around.

I use a galaxy note with the music app though. Not a fan of iphones, itunes.

I too have no problem when I get back in my truck and automatically reconnecting to Blue Tooth. I however don't seem to have to leave it in pause mode, it just plays the tune right where it left off without the music player being active. Now I just purchased the 14 XLT Saturday so I obviously haven't repeated the scenario very many times so time will tell if I have the issues that most have on this ridiculously long thread.

I only know that because I was curious if I would have the same problem many others have had and tried several times to get the Blue Tooth to fail. I really don't now why folks wouldn't just throw their music on a stick. The voice commands work better and it seems to me to be better quality.

So it's working fine on a 2014... but that doesn't help ANYBODY else! I'm in a 2013, and there's a less than zero percent chance of Ford putting out an update for my stereo.

I agree, this thread is long. I started it. Over a year of complaining and Ford still hasn't fixed it. (Maybe they have for the 2014 models...)

I use a stick most of the time now but it is not ideal. The same problem occurs occasionally using a USB stick. I agree, I think the quality through USB is better. The reason for using Bluetooth is not only for music residing on a connected device but also streaming music and other media from the internet, e.g. a hockey game.

In addition, there are a number of apps on Android devices which are nice to have going through Bluetooth including NAV and Google Now's voice commands. They work much better than SYNC's voice recognition technology. I can dictate text messages to the phone. It recognizes and more accurately dials numbers from my contact list. The music is paused when the NAV other apps speak. I use these features on longer trips but If we stop to eat or refuel, it quits.

"Please say a command." "BLUETOOTH AUDIO" *Beep* "I didn't understand you. You can say... etc..." Even my wife says it would drive her nuts and she tolerates ME.

Too bad Ford has made it such a pain in the rear-end to use. It sure would be nice if Ford would release an update and I didn't have to remind my truck I want to continue with bluetooth audio every single time I get in the stinkin' truck. Who the heck uses Line-In? (few, I suspect.) So, why make it the default?

Because thats invonvenient. I want all of my notifications and gps and music to come through the same input from my phone into my stereo. It's basic functionality we are asking for. My cheap Bluetooth stereo I bought in 2010 did these things no problem. You'd think the stereo in a $46k brand new vehicle could do this as well.
