What blows my mind the most about this thread is the fact people are expecting the next to the bottom of the barrel truck to have the same amenities as a higher trim level.

STX is only 1 notch above an XL. If those complaining want more, then you have to dig a little deeper in the pocket.

All this may be true BUT I bought the VERY bottom of the bucket 2004 Chevy 6cyl/5sp no electric windows built like a go cart with a windshield, the "gunna brake and leave you on the side of the road" plastic clutch master cylinder mount, and it had automatic headlights and cost about 12K less...

Why should you get a complete trim level higher, when the parts for this are less than $50, and all trucks are prewired for it? With power equipment group it should be included. Like it is on the 2015's. You can get a 2015 XL with power group and it comes with auto lights. I get it, if you have roll up windows, but even then not really.

Auto headlights is hardly an amenity exclusive to a higher trim level. My dads 2002 2wd s-10, no power windows, or locks, or fm radio, even has auto lights. My wife's truly bottom of the barrel, 2wd, 4cyl, 2008 ford escape, has auto headlights. My 2010 stx is optioned out so much, it's closer to 1 step down from xlt, than it is an XL, but it doesn't have auto lights.

Hugely beneficial to people who live in states where headlights are required when it's raining.

Perhaps you bought the wrong make of truck, this is after all a Ford truck forum.

The answer is simple, if you want more truck, you pay more for it, Sure I'd like to have a Raptor for what I paid for my xlt, guess what... ain't gonna happen.

You just don't understand do you. Read my reply again. My wife's escape has this option. It's bottom of the barrel! Your argument is invalid. She did not need to pay for a titanium/platinum trim level for it. Like I said auto lights is not an option exclusive to higher trim levels, with any of Ford's other models.

As a Ford retiree I can testify that saving the $1.00 per car in likely cost repepresented by dropping out the auto headlight switch & sensor on the STX was not only applauded by the cost *****, it was expected. Think about it. How many STX sales might have been lost because of no auto headlights? Probably not many, and it gives the sales community an easy opportunity to cheerfully bump prospects to the XLT. There are a zillion stories like this in the world of Ford.
