ac/heat smell fixed???
I encountered the heater/ac manure smell the 1st week of march on my 2013 with about 11k miles. I noted a smell from the vents when new but it was more of a sweet not unpleasant smell, it did not bother me. Then I had noticed earlier in the winter with the heater running a sudden burning electrical smell. It passed after a few minutes and I did not think of it again. The 1st week of march it developed the manure smell, very pronounced. I tried Lysol through the intake with no success. I ran the heat at full blast for a long drive and the smell shifted to the band-aid smell. I had enough and took it to the dealer. They immediately knew what it was when I described it. The manager told me ford issued a TSB on this issue "recently". The service order does not say TSB but gives the following:
" 11847 ac odor, removed blower motor speed controller and inspected evaporator core, AC oil on bottom of core. leak test evap core, loses vaccum, removed and replaced evap core as outlined in wsm. reassembled and recheck no leaks no smell."
manager said they were chasing the smell in 1 other f150 for 3 months so they knew the symptoms. The new part was described as a different core.
Hopefully it lasts.

^ thanks for the tip, jeffp . The smell hasn't come back "fully" yet, but I'll definitely try to remember what you said when I take my truck in for its next service!

Manure smell when blower is on.
My 2013 hold over F150 is a year old with 16,000 miles and I have the exact same issue. Terrible "manure" like smell when blower is initially turned on. I brought to the dealer yesterday and they found that the Evaporator Core has a leak. This smell is the chemical that is leaking from the core. They have ordered a new core and it will be covered under warranty. They will call me when new core is in and I will report back if this fixes the smell, but I imagine it will. I suggest the rest of you have your dealerships look into this. Thanks to Heritage Ford in Vermont for finding this the first time I complained about it!!

Yes, several people here have had the evap replaced due to a leak causing the smell. Then the following Spring the smell comes back, assmedly due to the new evap leaking.
My '13 is at the dealer right now for the smell. I finally had a day I could drop it off. I'm still expecting to hear, "couldn't reproduce issue" but we'll see. It's been 6 hrs now so I assume I'll hear from them soon.

Funny they just called. They pulled out the blower motor and cowl assembly and said everything was clean. They checked the A/C system and found no leaks. It was at 1.3 lbs before and is now. They want to do some "deoderizer" treatment on it.
Pretty much what I figured I'd hear. This is a small dealership, but I'm sure they've sold enough of these trucks that they've had people come in with this complaint before. Guess I try another dealer. Then if there's no solution I guess it's off to Carmax to see what it's worth to them

my 13 and 08 all required 1.5lbs, so you are low.

LOL
What bullsh*t.
They have no way of knowing how many pounds are in your AC system unless they pull the entire charge out and weigh it. Unless they had done that previously, then done it again....How would they know if it changed/leaked?
Also, refrigerant has a sweet smell, unlike sh*t. I think the evap has a bad design and condensate is not running off the coil, and out the drain like it should. My Lincoln MKX has the same issue. It smells like dirty socks.

I'm glad Heritage is taking care of this. I'll loop in your regional customer service manager, who'll work with your dealer on a swift resolution. Please send me a private message with your full name, phone number, and VIN.
I'll get started right away.

Let's get a second opinion on this. Locate another Ford Dealer here. Once you make an appointment, please PM your full name, phone number, VIN, up-to-date mileage, and of course, the dealer's name. I'll look into next best steps at that time.

This is all sad, I predict a lot of 12-15's on the used car lots soon! Buyer beware!
