Default 2011 F150 XLT A/C Condenser

So my a/c went out on my truck the other day. I found out that it was because a rock flew up and hit the condenser, allowing the freon to leak out. I feel like the up front position of it will be easy for me to get a new one and install it myself. Would it be as simple as unfastening it from the frame and reconnecting the a/c hoses to the new one? What exactly are the steps in taking a condenser out and putting a new one in?

It is not as simple as just unhooking it and installing a new one. You will need to take it to a shop to have the system purged and then recharged.

I would just take it in and let them do it all.

I have the same question. I can do the labor to swap the condenser out, but I will take it to a shop to have it evacuated and refilled.

Anyone have any tips for R&R? It looks like it is as simple as removing the top center junction box, upper bolts from the radiator, disconnecting the power steering (my condenser has a PS cooler integrated) and tilting the radiator and sliding the condenser out. Am I missing something?

I hope to hear from some folks that have actually done it themselves.

This is what I did on my wife's accord. I changed the condenser myself and then took it to a shop to have the lines vacuumed and charged. I ended up saving myself alot of money. I got a quote to have everything done by a shop and it was over $900. I paid $120 for the condenser, swapped them out, and paid 69.99 to have the system recharged.

Try to look on youtube for videos of people who have done this already.

Yes, take it out yourself and replace, then take it to an AC shop for purge and recharge. Be careful with the fittings. If you have hose fitting wrenches use them.

These aren't F150 videos but they are more recent videos for Ford vehicles. Condensers are pretty standard so watching these videos, you should be able to figure it out.
