Anytime you roll negative equity into a new vehicle, it's never a good deal IMO.

I don't understand why people trade in vehicles. I have sold several and it never takes more that a couple of weeks and I always end up several thousand dollars more ahead than I would in a trade-in.

I would say post it for sale for a reasonable price, take that money and use as a down payment and then negotiate the deal. Don't talk about the down payment just get the out the door price of the truck. I think 39K + TTL is a good deal but that trade-in value isn't.

Yep, it's just crazy to give money to your dealer. I always try to sell the vehicle outright myself. You will usually make about $2000 more. Almost every time, the first person that comes to look at my vehicle buys it. Could have something to do with how well I take care of my vehicles.

If you're financing, I'd do it. With the blowouts of the 14's, you still end up with a nice truck for less than you would've paid. I went into my deal with -6k. But then again... I was mind *%} when I say in the truck and really didn't give a SHT about numbers... Just the monthly payment.. Lol

Everyday I get in my 2014 fx4, I don't regret it even a little bit..

And that's why banks are allowing 7 year loans on autos now, which I think is nuts. The dealerships and loan institutions know a lot of people want monthly
Payments to be the bottom line, so instead of looking at rates and total cost, they simply stretch the loan out

As for the OP's price, I thiught +TTL meant they weren't added yet. If they were, then it's a great deal. Ford alone is offering 4200 off on most vehicles currently, and that price isn't even 4k off MSRP, which is why I questioned if it was a deal or not.

OTOH, what matters is, are you happy with it, and will you be happy in a year with it?

It depends. Sometimes the trade in offer is actually very good and the you get a rebate with a trade in PLUS no sales tax on trade in value. So the $2000 you reference is likely only a few hundred. For that measly difference- I vote trade in.

True, if you have done your homework, you know if the trade-in number is good or not. Plus then if you get a rebate for a trade-in, it can actually be a pretty good deal. We actually did that when I bought my truck. There was a $1500 rebate for a trade-in plus what they gave me ended up being pretty close to what I figured I could get selling it on my own. So...I did the trade-in. Just have to do your own research and know what your vehicle is worth. Plus sometimes people only have one vehicle and can't wait to sell their older one to get the new one. All depends on the situation.

Went back today and they wanted to give me 5k for my trade instead haha. Told them to shove it. Went to next dealer and they offered me my payoff for my truck (3k over good trade in NADA value) but wouldn't come down any from MSRP minus rebates so no truck for me today. I would lose the $1500 trade assistance and about $1200 in sales tax savings if I sell outright but it may be worth it just not to have it as part of the negotiations.
Thanks guys!
