There are many brands better than infinity. They do however make good "bang for buck" speakers. If you feel like spending more there are many , many great component sets out there. I would suggest 6/6.5 inch comps over 6x8's anyday. That being said, its all about the budget. I have been around car audio for many years and one place i buy from is sonicelectronix.com . Check them out, they are unbeatable. Literally.

I just installed 4 - Pioneer TS-A6874R A-Series 6"x8" 3-Way and wow, I was impressed since I only spent about $25 a speaker.

timely thread....i'd like to upgrade my '07 f150 stereo as well. it's not that great, does the job but sounds "tinny" if that makes sense.

the stock unit (layout, controls, etc) are fine for me, but i guess the question is does it put out enough power to make new speakers sound good? do i have to look for speakers that have their own amp built in (if such a thing exists), and do i have to get a new head unit & amp? i really don't want anything complicated, not do i want to deal with amps, speaker boxes, etc. keeping it as simple as possible but sounding great (or really good is fine too) is the goal.

what's a ballpark price i should expect to pay? how big are the speakers in the door?

i'm clueless about car audio so pardon the beginner questions.... thanks.

Look for speakers with low impedance, the lower the number the more efficient use of watts from the HU. I assume it is pretty low because I just installed a new HU that has 22w rms with stock speakers and it woke those speakers up!

I have some Infinity Kappa's on the way for the doors.

The difference between a speaker with a rating of two ohm and four ohm will not necessarily get louder because of impedance... It will however draw more current because of a lower electrical resistance. I believe you may have been thinking of the sensitivity rating, this rating is what implies how well a driver can manipulate amplifier power to actual sound.
Some people actually argue that a 2ohm speaker doesn't sound as clean and clear as a 4 ohm.
I will be the first one to tell everybody just because you look at the ts parameters and they look good doesnt mean the speaker is at all capable of these ratings these are best scenario ratings Wich will change as you add power to a speaker.
Also if you do switch to 2 ohm speakers make sure the amplifier or head unit will handle this load.

Yep, that's what I meant! Thanks, yes sensitivity rating. I knew someone who knew more than I would chime in.

I dabble in HT and it is roughly the same.

Thank you for the correction.
