I love my infinity reference 6x8 I don't use an amp and they are clean... I use components speakers and everyone says there is a stock tweeter location the tweeter can be place in... idk about it but I would def go infinity... A lot of others say infinity kappa series are the way to go... They are the better series But a lot of them use amps to power there kappas and I didn't want to get into all that... I hope this somewhat helps

Did you use speaker inputs for your amp? If so where did you tap them? I too want to keep my factory HU. Thanks

Default Stereo

I got a PAC audio wire harness. Plugs into back of factory headunit. It allowed me to run an amp

speaking of harness....when installing the new speakers do you need a wiring harness for them or is it just unplug the old and plug in the new?

You need a harness/adapter.

There is a custom plug on the speakers that mates to the plug coming from the truck. If you buy the harness, you can plug right into that and either use quick-disconnects on your speaker, or solder your connections directly to the speaker (not usually the best choice).

OR you can cut off the factory connector and then wire in your connects for the speaker. The problem with this, is going back to stock you have to re-wire in the factory connector to use the speakers again if you want to. Some people don't care about ever going stock, others do... for example, if you get into an accident or decide to trade in the truck, you can swap out the upgraded for stock speakers and re-use the upgraded speakers in the new truck...
