(Ok I guess I am a little biased to Polk) Ok I got it, change all 4 of them to start. I like the idea of an amp in the area right behind the head unit. I am buying that! Should I get a amp wiring install kit? Is that helpful for my installer? I cant say thank you enough, my tinnitus is absolutely horrible. I have hearing loss in the upper/high end. The wife doesn't believe it, thinks it is selective hearing. (It used to be) Love my music, but it's so hard to hear with the ringing constantly going on in my head MoDy150 you are the man! Somebody should stickey that post ITS AWESOME
You should be pleased with the db571's. I currently have 4 and am quite impressed. Not very expensive but still have nice quality. Had them almost a year with zero issues.

MoDy150-not sure where you are located, but we are expecting 12+ inches of snow on Sunday here in the New Jersey area. Hope that is not in your area.
Good luck on getting everything done.
I am liking that tiny amp you showed me. My installer place I was going was way to busy to chat today. Maybe tomorrow.
Thanks again!

I'm in Oregon. We'll have a bit of rain, which is normal. Barring too many distractions from the family, I should be able to get done this weekend.

I hope everything work out for your install.

Hey Bruce.......I'd like to know how this turns out for you. I'm kinda in the same boat as you w/ hearing loss and tinnitus, (ears ringing as I type this).

A GREAT write up by MoDy150 (thank you sir).

I have just purchased a 2012 F150 Lariat. I would like to replace the original unit to something with nav, but, I want ALL of the controls to work as the stock unit.
I'll prolly just keep the original unit as I am skeered to change.

maybe the speakers and that small amp...

any suggestions for my particular truck would be appreciated.

Bruce....would like to see some pics of your install.
thanks,
pb

Ok, I DID IT MYSELF,
Didn't need help with the doors, it was a little scary at first, never did anything like this before but, I got 3 of the 4 speakers in! The 4th speaker I need to get repaired cause I broke off one of the tables on the speaker when I attempted to put on the cable. But, yes the 3 work well, it wasn't tough! They sound good, better than the stock ones for sure. Next week sometime I will have the clarion amp installed. I mad DEFINATELY not trying that one!
I will keep you updated

Good! Yea those connectors can be a pain.

I was able to get some installed a couple weeks ago. Been swamped with work so I haven't posted.

I installed the stereo, speakers, and amp. I getting a little alternator whine, so I'm gonna have to shorten the ground cable.

I still need to hookup the rear view cam and reverse sensors.

Congrats on getting the speakers in!

MoDy150,
Ok, since I got my speakers in, and I ordered up the clarion amp. Have a neighbor kid looking at my system and he said I have no RCA's on my OEM head unit. So to install the clarion class D amp, he has to turn up the gain which will make it run hot, and as he said "that's what causes fires"
I have no idea! He was saying a lot of splicing, etc, etc.
sounds like it would be easier to get a new head unit BUT, then I need a wiring harness, a new dash cover (I hate all the ones I have seen) so, to,get a new head unit I am talking $300+, just to install my $70 amp.
HELP AGAIN

Neighbor kid is an idiot. Dont let him anywhere near your truck. For your 2010 you need one of these
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Add-an-Amplifier-AMP-Subwoofer-to-an-OEM-Radio-Plug-n-Play-PAC-AOEM-FRD24-/251488942170?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AF-150&hash=item3a8de8b85a&vxp=mtrIt will install behind the factory radio and give you RCA outputs and a remote turn-on lead. Completely plug and play with no splicing. Is the amp being installed for a subwoofer?

Hey Bruce, king nothing is right.

Many professional installers have f150s with the stock stereo with massive amps and speaker setups. Steve Meade Designs and SoundMan come to mind. Both award winning stereo installers/designers.

You need the device from the link above. Its called a PAC add-on amplifier interface. It's completely plug and play. You dont have to buy from ebay, any stereo shop can get it for you...amazon has it for less than 35bucks. You'll need 2 pairs of rca cables, 3footers. You can get them anywhere, walmart, amazon, radio shack, etc...

With thr PAC, you plug the factory stereo harness into the pac harness, male to female. The plug the PAC into the stereo. Then plug the rca cables into the PAC and the Clarion Amp, red to red, white to white. The only other part is wiring the power and ground to the amp.

Good luck!
