PAC + 2 Amps? 4 Chan + Mono = How 2 Wire?
Hey Gang,
Here is what I've got...
1 - 10" pioneer shallow mount sub in enclosure
1 - JL JX250/1 Mono Amp (175 watt rms)
1 - PAC-OEM-FRD24
4 - 5x7s (coming soon)
My question is... How do I go about adding a small (25-35watt rms x 4) 4 channel amp to this equation to power the door speakers?
Specifically, how do I go about making the RCA connections so everything works properly? I know the PAC has 4 RCAS..?
2 Front (L/R) and 2 Rear (L/R)
so what gets plugged into where? Do I just need a 4 channel amp with a set of preamp output on the back? is there an easy, idiot proof way to do this!
*** My Mono amp actually has 1 set of preamp outputs... Could these be used to run to the 4 channel amp? allowing me to buy a less expensive 4 channel (1 that doesn't have preout)
Carl

You could run the 4 channels for the door speakers with the high level inputs on the amp and run the sub on pre-amp outputs
OK - So how would I do that?
Would I just take the FR, FL, RR, RL speaker OUTPUTS from the PAC and wire them into the High Level input on the AMP? Then run the speaker wire from the AMP back to the PAC and connect where I cut...? Sending power to door speakers? 25-35 watt rms the factory wiring should be able to handle?
My mono amp only has 1 RCA in (1 left 1 right)... so that would leave RCA's unused in the PAC?
I've read that high level inputs don't usually work that well?

Just call me sean. Really
What is a PAC?
Factory wiring should handle that. I've hooked up really thing, factory like wire to my amp to my sub (300 watts) and nothing bad happenened. That was tiny wire too, so just for 35 you should be good
Basically what I'm saying here, is, take the normal speaker wire connections from the back of the HU, run them into the high level input on the amp, and then from the ouput on the amp go to the speakers

Thanks Mustang,
I get your drawing, the PAC is a LOC that adds 4 RCA's and a remote wire to the factory HU. I am using so I don't have to hack and slash too much in the harness.

Dazed and Confused
I am thinking of using a RCA Y cable on one of the PAC output cables. One PAC cable goes straight to the 4 channel amp. Then the Y cables plug in to both the sub amp and the 4 channel.

Ahh ok I get it now. All my stereo stuff is after market, didn't have a stock head unit in the truck to start with.
I'll admit to being lost on RCAs for anything but the sub amp, but that's because I haven't wired up an amp for my doors yet and have no first hand experience. I've just tested it with the high level input, and damn was it loud!

Thanks Guys, I gott'er figured now!
I ran 4ga power wire from battery to AMP just in case I want to upgrade to a 5 channel or a 4 channel further down the road.
For now the system sounds good with just the stock speakers and the amped pioneer shallow mount sub. It definitely filled in the lows.
Thanks to all who replied and others who've invested their time into making some great tutorials and how-to's for the rest of us.
Tallyman, Macaboo, Blackknight87 and even you Mr. Mustang. Thanks Again.
