Default Installed a Kicker VSS system in my 96' Ranger

I figured I would give it a go and try to install one of the F-150 Kicker Kits in my daily driver standard cab Ranger. I bought a $40 craigslist CD player with aux input.

After really looking at the F-150 Kicker harness, I realized there is really nothing to it. The jump harness is basically a female end that receives your factory stereo plug and a male plug that goes into the factory stereo. Since I have an aftermarket unit, I just cut the harness out completely. All the harness does it split the speaker wires off in two directions so the Kicker DSP can receive and send out an audio signal. The power and ground wires for the Kicker Amps are completely separate.

I just eliminated the harness all together. I soldered the speaker wires on the radio harnesses end to the ones I cut off the male side of the kicker harness, then I solders the speaker wires from the female side of the kicker harness to the adapter harness I bought from best buy for my ranger. So basically I created my own harness. The rest of the wires are literally plug and play.

I installed the 4 channel DSP under my dash.

And I used the sub box that came with the kit. It's fits directly behind the passenger seat in my standard.cab truck. It freaking rocks too!

Fortunately, my truck has 5x7's, so with a little soldering, they were a direct replacement front and back.

It is a VAST improvement over my stock crap system and for the money, it's can't be beat. Period.
