Default Ford f-150 xlt supercrew subwoofer plans

About 6 months ago my volume **** on my Truck started going out. If you was to try and turn the volume down, the volume may go up..may go down.. So decided to replace the head unit and that naturally meant I had to replace all speakers in the truck as well, right? Hahaha.
Put the new head unit in, then replaced all door speakers and thought might as well put in a subwoofer. I'm 32, and have 2 kids that ride in the back seat a lot. So needed something that will not get in their way and yet sound good. I don't need the biggest and best but does need to sound good.
I searched and searched for box designs for my F150 but came up with nothing. Found prefab boxes but with the wrong sub cut out, wrong look, or was for the wrong year truck.

Joined this forum just so I can post a design/build idea on making a Single 12" subwoofer box that will fit under the back drivers seat of a 2001 F-150 XLT Supercrew.

I originally was going to go with 2 infinity 10's but after doing the box design scratched it and went with a Pioneer Ts-sw3002s4. That's why in the plans you will see them labeled "box2" at the bottom. the PDF should be attached.

Edit: This box was specifically designed for a 12" Pioneer Ts-sw3002s4. If you use a different subwoofer, the hole cutout may be different because this is a shallow subwoofer and their cutouts are usually bigger. Also, this sub has a 3.375 inch mounting depth. If the hole cutout is the same size and in the same location, you can go up to 3.84 inches before it hits. I would go no more than 3.75 just to be safe. However, if your hole cut out is smaller and you keep the sub toward the front side of the box, you will have more wiggle room. If you want to copy this build but want a different sub, give me the sub dimensions and I can help you figure out if this box will work.

Addition info. The Pioneer Ts-sw3002s4 12" subwoofer specs a box size minimum of .5 cubic foot and a max of 1.00 cubic foot with the optimal being .8 Cubic ft. This box is .787 cubic ft. (1,360.72 cubic inches)

Edit: I have had questions on how one goes about finding/doing a 77.3 or 57.7 degree cut. For the 77.3 just set it to 23 degrees. (77x23=90) For 57.7 just round it off to 58 and set your saw cut to 32. (58+32=90) You can get more exact than that if you want but that will get your really close. If you want to double check that it is correct, use the fractional inch measurements I gave in the PDF, draw a line from it to the corner and see if your blade lines up closely. Once you do that cut, then use the next piece in line that shares that same angle. You can find it in the PDF on page one. I did all my cuts on the back of a tailgate using a handsaw and a Swanson CG100 cutting guide. no table saw involved. Hope this helps

All you need is a 48x48 piece of 1/2 mdf.
I laid it out very similar to the pattern I had included in the PDF. Only thing I changed was the 1/8 spacing between the pieces for the saw cut. My blade was not that wide. marked 25" call the way down the board and laid out the top piece first. I recommend cutting the Speaker hole first, then cutting the board along the 25" line all the way across. Then cutting the top panel out. then mark the next board. But whatever works for you

more pics. Not shown in these pics, but I silicone the inside then Glued and screwed the remaining last two pieces. Waiting for it to dry, then I will caulk the rest of the box by going through the speaker hole. Also drilled out the speaker terminal. I did not include that in the layout design. I ran down to best buy, found what they had and just made it work. This is all I have for the moment. waiting on box to dry and then I will add more.

I seen their boxes, while nice looking, for the money id rather build one. This box will end up costing my $50 where buying one from them is $117.00

However ive already got all the tools needed to do a box, where as someone who doesn't, it would probably be better just to buy it already made.

Default update

filled over the screw heads with Wood filler, then rounded off the edges with a router, and sanded it down some. Called up a local car ding and dent company and they said they would do the finish sanding on it and spray a truck liner on it for $25. Going to run it up to them tomorrow and will post pics when they are done Id say it fits the area pretty good

Unfortunately during lunch, it appears my Fuel pump might have went out on me. So will not be able to take the box to get bed liner sprayed on it today

Got new relay for the Fuel pump, seems to be working for the moment. And dropped box off at a local Bullet Liner company. Should have the box done by tomorrow
