a 12" lift would be sick! but like they said 6500 then cost of tires, gas, etc.
most people go with around a 4-6" lift depending on their personal needs. just dont forget to factor in the cost of new tires and wheels if you need them into your budget.

Well glad you asked here before you got a 12" lift..

Here's a truck with 6" lift and 35" tires.. it should get you around and through whatever you need.

Here's 1 with 8" RIZE and I believe 37" tires.

And I believe this is the 12" RIZE and 40" tires..

I would just suggest doing a 6" lift and 35" tires.. you don't have to regear if you don't want to. If you went with a 8" RIZE and 37" tires, you would feel a loss in power, and even a bigger loss in power with a 12" RIZE and 40" tires.. you'd have to regear to 4.88s and that's like $1800 alone.

Anything else, ask!

gotcha ya i dont have a lift on mine right now just a leveling kit (lifts the front so its closer to the height of the back) and it sits pretty good i have 33 inch tires on there you may want to pick a diffrent tire than what i have they are very noisy umm a 4 inch lift is what i will go with when i get one it to me does just enough without goin over the top.... most people prefer a 6 inch lift with 35 inch tires and thats a pretty big set up

Yikes, those are some serious lifts! Yea, I guess I will go for something smaller like 4". I should probably see what size tires I have, too...

Thanks everyone for the info and links. I'm getting smarter by the second!

You probably have 265/70/17 on your truck now, I assume.. You could do 33" tires with a leveling kit, or even 35" tires with a leveling kit, you might rub at full lock.

I'm pretty sure 4" and 6" on the 04-08 is pretty close to the same price.

You could do 33" and 4" or 35" and 4".. I'd personally go with 6" and 35" tires.. seems like a perfect height.

A leveling kit does what it says, levels the frame of the truck? My front is slightly lower than the rear, so it would make sense.

Also seems I have to be aware of the space available inside the wheel well. If I get only a lift, then no new considerations. But if I get larger tires, then I might rub when I turn the wheel full.

So would it reason that if I got large tires, I'd have to lift even further so the tires turn UNDER the frame and avoid rubbing?

Stupid question: how do I tell how large, in inches, are my tires?
