Default who can afford a new f150?

I been looking and wanting a new pickup and the one things that just kills me on these new trucks is there price! WTH is with the $50k price tag? I drive around and I see many of these trucks on the road, and I am thinking, what the hell are all these people doing to manage buying a truck this expensive? and how do they justify it? I make a decent living and it is no small commitment to buy/spend that much on a vehicle.

~just a minor rant... thx...

Ya can't go by the MSRP on the sticker, that's just a suggestion, after rebates/incentives etc. My $34,800.00 truck cost me $29,900 out the door TTL included. That was in 2013.

Having good credit makes or breaks a deal if you can't get a good interest rate.

Do like I do and buy a slightly used one and let the original owner take the hit.

I bought a year and half old F150 (4x4, Lariat) for 30-40% off of sticker price. It had less then 20k miles, full warranty, financed through my local credit union for 3% interest. Owned it for 2yrs, put another 20K miles on it, and sold it for what I paid for it.

Bought a 2yr old F250 (6.7l, Lariat) for 30%-40% off of sticker price, with less than 25k miles on it. It already had airbags, bedcover, and 5th wheel hitch. Paid $45k, original owner paid $61k. AND the best part, no bull**** dealer fees and no taxes.

I sell LED lights to pay for the truck Speaking of which... my truck payments coming up... you should buy some lights from me

Naw kidding... things are expensive. Most of us are not rich but we love our trucks. And we probably spend way more then we should on them. It's just how it is. People WILL PAY for these trucks. Ford could probably sell them for less, but they know we'll pay for it. And we do.

I miss not having a truck payment and now having one that's what... $500 a month... sucks. My trucks not even top of the line. It's 50k... some of you guys with the Lariats and above... even more money for those.

I justify it this way. I had my 2008 Nissan Frontier from July 2008 till January of 2016. 8 years worth, over 100k and it was in great condition. I could have hung onto it, as it was mechanically sound NO issues. But... I wanted something nice. I work hard and want to enjoy my ride to work. I also drive around a lot for work so I want something comfy.

Forget the sticker, it means next to nothing. You can drive a new 2016 4X4 XLT Supercrew off the lot for $38K-$41K. A smaller cab, lower trim level or 4X2 will be much less.

In rare cases you can come out OK buying used, but trucks simply hold their value too much to be a bargain on the used market. I've bought several new trucks, driven them 150,000 miles and not spend a dime on repairs other than oil changes, tires, batteries etc. And still sell it for 50% or more of what I paid. The next guy will pay for all of the repairs and if he gets another 150,000 out of it may have to pay someone to haul it off.

People look at a $50K sticker on a 2016 and panic. They then go out and pay $25K for a 2013 thinking they saved $25K. The problem is that the 2013 they just bought only cost the original owner $30K, and they could have gotten the 2016 for around $38K. Almost all new trucks are discounted at least 20% off sticker plus you get the rebates, all of the warranty and lower interest.

I would bet that a lot of these people make less money than you. Some people prefer to keep some money for emergencies and retirement and others will get as many loans as people will give them to buy as much stuff as they can. I know some people that are so far in debt it would literally make me physically ill if I was in their shoes. Dosen't seem to bug them one bit.

On June 30 I purchased a 2016 F250 XLT. After $5000 in rebates and a nice dealer discount of $6100 the truck cost me $38,000 then I put a down payment on top of that..

Do some homework crunch the numbers and don't worry about what the MSRP is.
