Yes, the rubber pad is good but the way I use the step the pad is more for looks than function.

I grab the A pillar with my right hand and put my left foot against the step for leverage. With one fluid motion I'm up and in without dragging across the edge of the seat. I don't actually "step" on the step but I suppose the pad is providing some grip as it does show a slight bit of wear.

Yep yep, I do the same. I do get out without even using it. My wife still hasn't seen/used it yet. Maybe she won't notice?LOL

I find the step kind of awkward, I'd rather do a big step in and being 6'2 makes it easy.

On the way out with the step in the winter your back leg always hits it and gets wet and slushy anyways so it's better off imo and looks better.

Johnday and I are talking about using just a bracket from the factory nerf bar as a "mini-step". Upon exit it is completely out of the way and yet quite functional for entry. And as far as look, it is barely noticeable.

I would remove mine if my girlfriend didn't need it. They are total mud magnets when I'm hunting or 4 wheeling on muddy roads.

It gets so gross it's unbelievable actually.

The mini-step is still a bit of a mud and slush magnet but not nearly as unsightly as the nerf bar itself.
