What year is the truck? Do you mean when you start it and let off the key the starter continues to run?

Help us help you,Year and engine? Does key return to on position by its self or is it sticking in start mode causing starter failure?

There are three components, the key lock cylinder. connecting rod, and lgnition switch. Check the components before money is spent. The rod connecting the lock cylinder to the switch can be dragging on the steering column. Remove the plastic shroud surrounding the steering column to expose the parts for inspection.

Smile Thanks Bill

Thank you Bill,
my mechanics figured it out this evening. and joyfully my truck is now back on the roads. the diagram for the solenoid shows to put the wires on two posts, which in all reality go on one (like old fords) they told. My mechanics are just average joe mechanics, they don't do it for a living. so actually the problem to begin with was the starter. so i only spend 150 on the starter and 40 dollars labor.
