On reddit r/trucks I saw a guy's video who did it without drilling. Used some kind of adhesive.

Easiest thing I've found. I order the 3/8" whip and have pushed my 3'x5' about 50mph. I'm confident I could go faster, but the flag wouldn't last.

I was just searching this before making a new post myself. This looks like a winner right here. Couldn't be easier. I didn't go through all 10+ pages but early on it was stated it held up to 80+ MPH. Not bad.

I ended up buying the same 3/8" whip and a 3'x5' flag, I don't know if I would trust it going over 50. I ran it out to a lake to go fishing last weekend and 45 seemed like it was bending just obnoxiously and it started to tear.
