Help on '14 lease negotiation

That said - what matters is that each person is happy with what they do. That's what sets us apart. It's why people add cold air intakes when there is no advantage to it. It's why people change oil way before the manufacturer recommends. It's why people change tires several times in a short period, and claim they can tell the difference. We're all different, some of us much more than others...

It would be hard for me to pay damn near $10k over 2 years and have nothing to show for it after the 2 years is up unless you plan to buy it out.... I guess the same reason led me to buy a house after renting for 2 years, same principal.

Well aside from the satire regarding why certain people think I'm a dumbass for leasing (without knowing my motivations or situation whatsoever) I suppose some useful info was gained. Thanks to those who actually answered the questions I asked.

Really - don't feel bad, at some point, its the internet after all. You have your reasons and others have theirs. Seldom do you get an answer without an editorial. Just take the input and apply it to your situation. I myself might put 3k miles a yr on my 150 but I just like to know that I own it. Its everyone's input that makes this a "community", yours included.

I'm in the same situation (but up in the Great White North) - leasing over purchasing, and frankly at this time I find two extremely cogent reasons for leasing over purchase
1. Current lease rate over 24 months is .49% rather than the lowest APR of 2.49 over 36 months on purchase. (costs only about 350$ in financing costs over the two years) and lease includes first year planned maintenance - oil changes, etc.
2. 2015 F-150 is out in a short amount of time. I didn't want to wait and I want everyone else to shake out all the bugs from the new frame / 2.7 ecoboost, etc etc. Then in 2 years if it is compelling, I could switch to a new truck with better mileage, new this that, etc. but if there are still issues, I can purchase my 2014 outright and I already know the cost.
As for the original question - mine is an FX4 with the works MSRP just a hair over $60k - given current rebates (including Costco rebate of $1000 off) I'm getting about 22.5% off MSRP.
For what it's worth - those are my numbers and you can look at those to see if you want to further negotiate.

Houses usually go up in Value so it's an Investment. Trucks go down in Value-.
Leasing works for me-.
Purchasing gets you a payment for 5 years or a big chunk of cash down to lower payments but your paying 500+ a month-. after the 5 years youll prolly have 70K+ miles. you'll own it though. but after another 2 years you'll want to trade it in and do it all over again-
at least that's my thinking-
I do lease and pay 310.00 a month(XLT loaded). The bank transfers every Monday 70 bucks from my checking in to my savings + another 25.00 month end. I never see it so to me I don't even have a payment-. in two years ill get another truck. 2016... so for me it works.

My issue with leases is the method in which dealers/manufacturer's advertise them.
2014 F150 bla bla bla...... $299 month/36 months / $3999 down.
that's usually the catch in a lease. TEASE you with a LOW MONTHLY PAYMENT, then in fine print, list some outrageous "due at signing" amount/
Who wants to sink a huge amount into an initial payment of a lease, only to now really have any equity in it?
So, most people probably DO NOT put anything down on a lease... BUT that required downpayment is just figured into your monthly lease payment PLUS sales tax.
So, in my example. that conceivably adds $111 a month to the payment, so now your lease payment is $447 a month with taxes (EXAMPLE ONLY using TN SALES TAX).
Before you lease, make sure what the required "due at signing" amount is.
also, inquire about what the "acquisition fee" is...Sometimes as high as $695, and if there is a "turn-in" fee at the end of the lease.
I leased once....never again.

Leases are great if you can stay within the mileage YOU CHOOSE , can take sum what good care of your truck, dont play the down payment game , ive been leaseing for a lot of years as im only 35 and like new trucks every 3 years or so, NEVER NEVER NEVER put any money down, you will never get it back period, low mileage leases are B.S period dont get suckered into that, at a minimum go 12,000 a year ... For an example I lease my 2014 FX4 that had a sticker of 48,000 and change, 15,000 miles a year for around 450.00 a month ............ that was sign and drive , oh and credit does drive lease payments as ford credit uses the tier system ....

A down payment is rarely required unless your credit sucks.
But down payment is ALWAYS figured back into the loan if you opt without one. Which is why an attractive advertised lease payment quickly rises into the $500 a month payment.
