Default Considering an '06 with a Rebuilt Engine

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a truck and I'm considering(errr most likely) buying this 06 F150. Owner has had the engine rebuilt by ford and it currently has 89K miles left on the 100k mile warranty backed by ford. There is 115k miles on the truck. He is asking $10.5 which I think is more than a reasonable price for this truck. I/owner of the truck live in michigan too so the winter's are pretty fun here.

Wanted to get some feedback from the guys that drive this truck day-in and day-out before I took the plunge. Money is kinda scarce being a college student, but I will be towing motorcycle's in the bed or via small enclosed trailer, quiet possibly a toy hauler/caravan type rig 5+ years down the road.

The owner stated it had the top, all encompassing and complete towing package but from looking at this using the vin: http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do

I'll post what I found below, but if you have any advice or anything I should check on the truck, please let me know!

I'd want to know why the engine needed a rebuild at ~100k miles. Neither the 4.6 or 5.4 should need a rebuild at that point.

His words were:

I have put 9,000 on it with the new motor. Runs great. Way better than it did before I got it done. Lost oil pressure, wouldn't get up to speed very well, so I knew something was going on. Changed everything I could before having to do the big thing. Spark plugs, filters, even gas pump. But in the end I had to get the big surgery done. 6,400$ for the new rebuilt motor from ford. Since it was the big motor it was automatically 1500$ more. And the 3 valve. I would even consider taking 10,500 for jt, but it's hard for me to justify going any less than that cause of the 6500 overall I had to put into it. I would say 14-16 city and 18-20 highway
Can anyone speak to the reliability of a rebuilt engine from Ford or how comprehensive their warranties are? I haven't had a chance to review the warranty papers.

Ha, he is lying about that for sure, but not a huge deal... But think about what else is he BSing you about.

I'd also ask him why he is selling it? He is taking a pretty big hit after putting a new engine in and only driving it 9k miles. Something doesn't seem to add up to me

haha agreed. You don't buy a truck for gas mileage. I already get 14/19 in my current suv so I don't care about that.

He said he wants to downsize(cause of family and kids, can never leave stuff in the bed, etc), all he has is a small water sports boat too. Maybe he wants to cut his losses and get some money back.

My statement about MPG, wasn't whether you cared about the MPG or not, its the fact that he is flat out lying about the MPG... Just something I would pick up on when someone is wanting to sell a vehicle.

Sounds like your mind is made up, hopefully it works out for you and you don't run into any major repairs down the road.

I get this way whenever I'm looking into something new. Somehow I haven't screwed myself and rushing into a big purchase yet though. Going for a test drive here in a few hours.
