I think it comes down to the tires in some cases. I drove a few different trucks before deciding on my truck. Didn't like anything that had 18" wheels when it came to braking. Another XLT that I drove was 4x4 and had Goodyears - liked that truck for braking better than my 4x2 with the Hankook. My friend has the same truck as me and he ditched the Hankook right away for some Michelin MTX2 and he notices the brakes feel a lot better as a result of that also.

I would agree, dealer has had the truck for 2 weeks trying to come up with a fix, I bought it mid July it has less then 3000 miles on it. The dealer even had a ford field service engineer drive the truck, he agreed it felt "funny" and he knows what i am talking about but said after talking to the detroit engineers determined it is a characteristic of the vehicle ( he also said they have not had enough other complaints yet) After continuing to push on them, they finally came back to me and said that ford was planning a technical service bulletin update (coming out in oct sometime)that was going to replace the pads and an abs sensor, but the catch is the intent of the update is to change how the pedal feels not how the truck brakes.

This all became an issue , when I was heading to work one morning on the free way (70 mph speed limit) and traffic ahead of me stopped, I slammed on the brakes, the pedal went to the floor and the truck came to a gliding stop, but not before I hit the trailer hitch on the truck in front of me. Did no damage to his truck, but his ball hitch wrecked my bumper, I want ford to fix it, as they clearly know it's an issue ( hence the need for them to replace the pads in oct). Given they claim the fix is to address the soft pedal feel not braking performance its not their issue o fix. I think more people need to complain about this, it is unacceptable for a brand new full size half ton truck to perform like this, I have owned other f150s in the past and this is a first. I have driven two 2011 trucks both do the same thing. My dealer has been helpful ford has not, I am still trying to get this resolved. Thanks for all the feedback, all is appreciated

I sympathise with you, but the fact is you hit someone because you didn't have adequate time and space to slow the truck down, a driving error.

Not the case, there was ample time to stop, the truck does not have the appropriate stopping power. As I stated, 3 service techs and a ford engineer recognize the same issue. Ford is replacing the brake pads for a reason. I would have no issue agreeing with you if it was legitimate user error

I am having the same issue with my 2011 Ecoboost 4 x 4, brakes are firm but will not slow the truck very fast. No joy with my dealer, has anyone been able to get satisfation from their dealer?

I came on here looking for a post related to this. I own a 2012 FX4 supercrew Eco. I drive a 2012 5.0 4x4 super cab with a camper shell and at least a few hundred lbs of equipment for work every day (5K a month). The Eco has only 3k on it, the 5.0 has 31k on it.

Notice two things. The Eco is far superior in terms on power. The 5.0 seems to have far superior braking.

Seems to take alot more pedal to stop the Eco than it does the work truck. Have not taken it in yet, but I am starting to wonder if it is related to the diference in the size of the tires on the two trucks? The FX4 has 20" pirellis vs the stock rugged trail wranglers on the work truck.

Any thoughts? Anyone with the same issue?
You should look up the breaking distance that ford said that the truck should stop at.... Then run that test in your truck and set up some cones and video tape it... One set up looking at the cone, one at your speed and one at the brake then show it to ford.... If you hi the cone then I think that they should pay for your bumper damage when u hit that other truck

Take your truck to the dealer and have them check for a blown fuse. I had the same issue on 2011 and they found a fuse blown. I have brakes now and i did ask the dealer to ask Ford why a there is no notification when this fuse is blown.

What did the dealer say the fuse powered? I took my truck out and "bedded" the brakes in, as if I had changed the pads, and it stops much better now.

Default F 150 Brakes

If my memory is accurate (i do not have the report as it was turned in to my employer) it is a 40 amp fuse that is used in the brake system. found it by scanning the computer for code errors.
