About to defect to the dark side!

About to defect to the dark side!
It looks like I may be converting to the dark side tomorrow. I have owned 2 Avalanches 02 and an 07. These were my first trucks after years of LT1 and LS1 F-Bodies. I really liked the Avalanche, but it's advancing age 137,000 miles and that dreaded dash crack that GM will not admit or fix, has soured me on GM. I began looking at F150 FX4 Crew Cabs a few months ago and test drove one last week. I really liked it and it felt more solid than my Avalanche. I lost out on a 2009 last week due to some dealer shenanigans though. I was looking for the 2009 model due to flat black paint and i found another about 4 hours from me fully loaded except navigation. It has 93,000 miles and the price is $19,999. It needs some cosmetic work like rusty bumper corner and a dent in the tailgate but it is otherwise clean. That body stuff is about $1000 to fix. I am sure I will do the plugs and wires and transmission service right out of the gate. I'll eventually add a bed cover and 20" FX4 gun metal wheels and tires. I've never owned a Ford but maybe see a 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 down the road when this is paid off. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can get it tomorrow.

I defected from Toyota. Had an 01 tacoma ( fantastic truck just too small) and a 2010 5.7 tundra that was a beast but only got 11 mpg on the highway. now I have a 2015 Fusion and an 09 f150 I drive to work. I'll never go back, I see what my grandpa was preaching on about for so many years.

So right off the bat you're talking $20,000 + $1,000 + costs of maintenance + FX4 rims & tires.
For a truck whose power train is 60,000 miles past it's warranty expiration ??
You do realize a brand new 2014 XLT Supercrew 4x4 can be purchased for ~$28,000 right ??
3 year full warranty also. (Value ~$2500 we'll say) So lets say $25,500 for the truck.
You're looking to spend almost $23,000 for a beat up heavily used truck with no warranty.
Sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture of what you can get for just a teeny bit more. Take another look at the full scope here......even if you need to wait 3 months to come up with another few grand, it's worth it to wait.

Take a look on the Carmax site (for example) and you will see....even though their prices are higher than many other places, their search function works well.
When I saw 93k and $19,000 I did a double take. I just bought a 2013 with 21000 miles for around $28k. But now I feel sick after reading Creepindeath's post....could have got a '14 with 5 miles for the same price....
But in any case, Welcome to Ford.

2014 F150 Lariat 2WD
Go for it!
It's OK mate, I just bought my first F150 and second Ford in my lifetime and I'm 55. Bought a Ford Flex new in 2009 and put 120,000 trouble free miles on it. Very comfortable ride. Miss it. Traded the Flex and got a stupid great deal on a loaded 2014 Lariat a few weeks ago. So far, it is a great ride. Also drive a 2002 Grand Cherokee with 225,000 miles on it. I have ALWAYS owned a GM or Chevy product until I got the Jeep. Ford has made great leaps in quality over the last few years. The Flex required one brake job, a few oil changes and one set of tires in 6 years / 120,000 miles. Made a believer out of me...

Don't be hard on yourself, deals can be very regional. I shopped new '14s in a 4-state area around where I live. I've bought many, many new and used vehicles over the years so it's not my first rodeo. I worked deals aggressively, no trade, and even offered straight-up cash on a few. I negotiated using X-Plan and not using it. I never saw the ~$10-12K discounts some folks talk about. Doesn't mean they aren't out there in some markets. Just be happy with 'your' deal and don't worry about what the other guy gets.

I would consider buying an F-150 coming over to the Bright-Side. Buying a used vehicle can result in some disappointing experiences if you don't know what to look for and can't access the history of the truck. Not knowing how well a truck has been kept up and seeing a fair amount of damage sometimes can be the tell tale signs of a truck that may not have been taken care of.
