for 2011 ford has announced making a 3.7 litre V-6 making 365 horsepower and 420 ft-lbs of torque, making it the most powerful half ton on the market, besides specialty models (such as the harley davidson edition). It will be offered as a premium option...over the 5.0 V-8. I love the news.what do you think about the new engine?

Yep, read the same thing. 365 HP, 420 ft-pounds torque. Max torque @ 2,500 RPM. Actually, I think this is a 3.5L twin turbo engine.
Impressive numbers but I shy away from new engines like this one. I would rather let others work out the bugs before I jump in.
The base engine for the F150 will be a N/A 3.7L V6. I think I would avoid that one also. Just not enough engine, IMHO. Especially for towing.
Next engine up will be the 5.0 as available in the Mustangs. No more 4.6 or 5.4.
Lots of choices out there.

Still doesn't equal the GMC's 403 hp.....

There is a 3.7L V6 base engine, 5.0L V8, 3.5L V6 Ecoboost premium engine, and 6.2L premium engine. The 6.2 will be available as an option for Lariat and Platinum trims with the Max Tow Package and is standard in the Harley Davidson, Raptor, and Lariat Limited.

As to the 3.7 not being enough engine..... I think it's sufficient for a base power plant. I have the 2 valve 4.6, and the 3.7 has significantly more HP, and foot lbs of torque. My 4.6 does just fine for moderate towing/hauling, so I guess the more power the better. right? Not to mention better gas millage.
Just like you said, I'm going to wait a few years before considering new motors like the ecoboost. Not only will they work out the bugs, but it will probably be improved in other ways, such as MPG while towing, HP, ect. However I do love the idea, and ford is the first to pioneer the high HP/efficiency V-6 in a half ton truck, and I think it's really going to be a hit.

yes it is a 3.7L twin turbo ecoboost engine similar to the one on the taurus SHO that makes the 365 hp. the regular 3.7 is making 305.. still impressive honestly

I'll get an Ecoboost 4x4 in two years after I have saved enough to buy it outright.
Also gives the aftermarket time to come up with improvements.
Ya'll gotta read this first drive article from Autoblog.com:
First Drive: 2011 Ford F-150 and its four new engines
I like what they think of the Base 3.7L V6 versus the GM 4.3 V6, 4.8 V8, and the 5.3 V8, but I may be Biased.
As for the durability of the Ecoboost there is this snipet, also from Autoblog,
Mike Rowe narrating Ford F-150 EcoBoost web documentary
Ballsey move by Ford
Also, don't forget Ford's habit lately of Underrating engine power. Apparently the v6 in the Mustang makes over 315hp at the rear wheels, rated at 305 hp. Tee Hee

Ford is itching to show that its 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine is tough enough to take whatever F-150 buyers can throw at it. In order to do so, the company has lined up a bevy of torture tests and enlisted Mike Rowe to narrate a documentary on the whole affair. Things will kick off with Ford randomly selecting an EcoBoost engine off of the assembly line to be subjected to the equivalent of 150,000 miles on the dyno. From there, the engine will be bolted into an F-150, where it will head to Oregon to skidsteer logs for a lumber company.
Then, the same truck and engine will head to Homestead Miami Speedway where it will tow two Sprint Cup Ford Fusion race cars around the track for 24 hours at full throttle, stopping only for fuel and tires along the way.
But wait, there's more.
From there, the engine will be removed from the 2011 F-150 and bolted into a specially prepared race truck, where it will do battle in the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. After all of that, Ford will tear down the engine and give the public a look at how things went inside. Sounds like a party. You can hit the jump for a look at the full press release and to check out the first video in the series.

Yea I'm stoked about these new engines and I'm really excited about this ecoboost as I had always wanted to TC this 4.6L. I'll definitely watch that Mike Rowe video at home.
I too found it funny how Ford underrates/values its HP on the engines. Like you said for the mustang, it states 305 on the commercial, and says "automatic transmission v6". When I read that, I said to myself 'gosh damn whats the manual v6 push, 325?' Way to go Ford for marketting w/ your low numbers and still impressing everyone
p.s. now I have that song from the mustang commercial in my head...
"you gotta go, you gotta go. ITS ALLLL RI-IGHT..."
