2012 F150 2WD to 4WD conversion

Why would one have to sell their new truck tomorrow? Because they couldn't afford it in the first place and shouldn't have bought it. You most likely wouldn't even come out ahead so it wouldn't help your lack of money situation, especially if you have to add a few grand to it because you didn't get payoff value.

I have a 2012 Supercrew F150 XLT. It is a two wheel drive truck and I am looking to possibly converting it to a four wheel drive. What parts would I need to accomplish this and what would the price range be. I am not looking to sell my current F150 to buy a 4X4. Thanks.
Here is my take. It can be done. Modifications like this I wish I had the time and money to do it just to do it but I cannot. You will need to do research on this conversion such as the transmission and transfer case along with gearing of the rear axle (you should have the room for this). the wiring if you want to have it that way or modify it for manuel transfer.
The front end with the vacuum system is a new animal to me so I would not say how that would work exactly unless I actually seen one up close. It is a interesting concept Ford has, so the question would be at where is the vacuum be produced at and do I have to buy something for that mofication?
the point being it can be done but the time to do it and doing to make it work would I guess would be a long term project along with money that is going to involve with this project.
I say go for it if your dedicated to a project of this sort. I would just to see if I could do if I had the time and resources to do it,
Good Luck and if you decide to do it let us know

No one has touched on the computer controlled aspect of such a transformation, is it doable? Yes. Will it cost more than trading in for one already set up. YES by a HUGE factor.
No way in hell could it be cheaper and that's going on my ability to make all the computers play nice with each other, farm that out to a tech with the skills and equipment and you would probably be able to buy another complete 2 wheel drive truck.
Trade it in and be done with it, your pipe dream is just that and in no way economically feasible.

Years ago, with straight axle, lockout hubs, manual transfer case, no computers, non-electronic transmission, etc., etc., etc., yes, could be quite a bit cheaper and not that hard to do. But on a 2012, even with parts from salvage yards, probably not. And it would be a VERY INVOLVED project.

it has been done:

guy cheaped out and didn't get the decals, but that's all you'd need to finish it.

On a very old truck, I can see how this could be done. It's all mechanical. On a 2012 with all the computers and wiring? I doubt it's even possible, and if it was, it certainly won't be cheaper than trading for a 4x4 truck.
