1997 f150 hcu ??
OK. Here goes.
No brake lights at all now. I had breaks when I would push down on the petal as hard as I could, but as of this morning, Nothing. No matter how hard I try and push on the brake pedal.
I have bled the each wheel, thinking that would get rid of the spongy, long travel in my pedal before the lights, and it would stop. I don't drive fast (you cant in NYC).
HERE IS WHAT I HAVE done so far
I checked the fuse 7 inside the cab and it was good, tested with a test lamp. And pulled it and verified that the fuse was not blown.
I pulled the Brake pedal switch
Break Pedal switch above
Tested it with a Multi-meter and it tested good.
I shorted the two wires going to this switch with and without the truck running and I didn't get tail lights either
My question now is, would it be an issue with the HCU now? Is there a switch in this?
Top of HCU with the Part number
Brake lines going into the HCU?
I have read several posts and it seems you have to have either the dealership do the bleeding of this unit or find someone with the system to do it
If you know of anything that I have missed please chime in.
Thank you,
Jeff

Looking at that burnt connector on your brake light switch tells me you should probably replace it to possibly fix the light issue.
As for the spongy pedal, yes you have to have an electronic service bleed performed, that involves a diagnostic/computer interface.

Would a bad HCU cause the tail lights not to work? If so, is there some switch in it?
