Just in case you did not know the radiator cap should be a 13lb cap. Nice truck you have there . Here is mine

Yup, motorcraft rs-62. I like the paint scheme on yours. Someday mine is going to be either black, or factory color again. If black not too shiny and not too dull, not cheap but not expensive. It will look juuuuuust right.

Sounds good. Just remember one thing.

WE WANT PICS!

My old truck was my father in-laws (he bought it used from his cousin who bought it new as a farm truck), was his hunting and knock around truck. I got it when he passed. Has about 89000 original miles on it (I have a copy of the bill of sale between them showing 49000 at their sale in 1994, and his service records until he passed in 2007 to track mileage). I do not drive it much right now going through the systems getting the "bugs" out from sitting for so long after he passed before we could get it moved from Texas to here. I was using it as a dd for a while before little things started going wrong. Mostly electrical problems in the power windows and the lighting system. I figure it is mostly bad grounds. Just have not got them all cleaned yet. and I now have a hole in a heater hose. Have the hose just waiting for a day when the heat index is not 10 to 15 degrees above the temp.

I now return you to the original topic of this thread:

I have a question. Where did you find the bug/rock shield?

Ok, more pics coming soon. My 1984 red f150 (profile pic) had that on it when I got it. I think it really classes up the front end and so do the bumper guards. I will look in the am but i believe the brand is deflecta-shield or something like that. The red truck used to have the old style that stuck straight up, but all of the cool stuff lile bed rails, grille guard, cab handle mounts, lift, wheels, and all were sold before I got it. Since the 84 is basically done for i put the shield on my 86. What I REALLY want is 2 grille guards, one on the truck and one to keep in mint condition for the next truck!

All of my older Fords have run on the "0" on the temp gauge.

Well after just running it a bit i found I do indeed have a big problem. It stays on the L every time I drive it. Only driving it for 5 min drives then letting it cool off. Wondering if its the gauge, sending unit, or thermostat. I REALLY hope its just the gauge.

Mine are always smack-dab in the middle and rarely waver. The oil pressure, on the other hand, runs at the "O" on Normal.

84Red, what temperature sensor did you get? Maybe the temperature/voltage range is off on the sensor? It could be for a different vehicle?

That is possible, i just got a random one at oreillys. Ill look at the box when I get home. It looked exactly like the one in the truck at the time, although the old one obviously didnt work.

Checked the lower radiator hose and it is warm, i dont know what the deal is, if the lower is warm, then the thermostat is most likely working. So the engine is cool? On thurs i am taking it in to be completely fixed by a mechanic and have them test the temp. I dont trust the temp gauge in mine. I also hope the PO didnt put in a broken sending unit to sell me a truck that overheats. Who knows
