@B-ManFX, Thanks for the input, but at this point, I'm leaning more toward a flakey electrical connection somewhere. The '06 f150 5.4L doesn't have an idle air control valve - per se. It is all handled by the throttle body and a sophisticated monitoring, actuation system involving the PCM and throttle plate actuator motor. The PCM has an entire 'separate' microprocessor that constantly runs a 'rationality' check against the throttle position sensor, accelerator pedal position sensor and what the PCM calculates as the driver's desired 'fly by wire' throttle to be applied via the throttle actuator. If the SLIGHTEST thing appears out of kilter, it will jump into a throttle limiting mode that would not be mistaken for a mere bad idle or loss of power. It won't hardly GO AT ALL. And that system is laden with several fairly specific error codes.

The only thing that comes to my mind at this point would be to disconnect the battery and unplug the PCM connectors, spray them good with electrical contact cleaner - and plug them in-and-out several times to hopefully burnish all the contacts, then apply some dielectric grease around the rubber seals, reconnect the battery - and go through the battery disconnect/relearn procedure. And drive it on the Florida trip, HOPE FOR THE BEST!

Sorry about that - my 2004 Lightning went through a spell of acting like you describe and I finally cleared it up by replacing the IAC valve.

Should have guessed they might have changed the intake system though - my bad.

Good luck on your trip - maybe it will fail hard so you can actually diagnose and repair it.

BTW - Dielectric grease degrades silicone rubber over time so be careful where you apply it.

You are right about that. Just a dab 'l do you.

No 'bad' occurs here man. We're all just trying to share our experiences to help.

Question 07 4x4 5.4 screw 60,000

Long time reader, first time poster

Just looking for any update on this thread. I have run into the same issue it seams. I do have an edge tuner with monitor and i do not have any CEL but i did pull 2 codes
P1635: tire/axle ratio out of acceptable range

P1000: on board diagnostics system readiness test not complete.(i had issues with led replacement bulbs causing battery to die and finally replaced the bulbs back to factory and replaced battery and i believe this is when i noticed this code.

My symptom is happening 90% of the time. From a stop when i accelerate the truck is shifting into 2nd from 1st and then immediately locks the torque converter dropping my rpms and then shifts to 3(lock) dropping them even more then the truck will buck from the load and low rpms. when i slow to come to a stop light it will shift from 4 - 3 -2 smooth but from 2-1 is shutters.

If i place the car in 2 it will bogg down the engine as if the converter is already locked up. if i put it in 1st nothing happens.

if i accelerate more aggressively from a stop then i do not notice this. transmission doesn't seem to slip or have any other complaints.

Any input is welcome.
Thanks,
Ryan
